The Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This switch is crucial for controlling the interior lights and the activation of certain refrigerator functions when the door is opened or closed.

Symptoms of a failing Door Switch include:

  • Interior lights staying on when the refrigerator door is closed
  • Interior lights not turning on when the door is opened
  • The refrigerator unexpectedly starting or stopping
  • Alarms or indicators malfunctioning, signaling an open door when it is closed

Causes of a bad door switch can involve mechanical failure due to wear and tear from frequent use, damage from impacts (such as slamming the door), or electrical issues like a short circuit or faulty wiring.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Switch (Part Number: OEM20919444)

Hello Chris, thanks for contacting AppliancePartsPros.com If there is no voltage at the connection on the harness coming from the wall of the freezer that connects to the ice maker harness WPW10458985 from Violet wire to White wire with the door switch W11396033 for the freezer held closed I would check that the door switch is closing properly and making contact, as well as that you are receiving proper voltage at the switch from Red wire to Chassis Ground. If you have 120v AC from the Violet wire at the switch to Chassis Ground when the switch is connected and held closed, but not at the end coming out of the wall going to the ice maker harness then there is internal harness damage which is non-repairable.

Andy, Thank you for your question. This issue will most likely be with the LED light module part number W11226500. You can test for 12 vdc to the led assembly and if there is power but the led lights do not come on then this will be a faulty module.

Rob for Model Number KCGD500GSS00

The control panel shows that door is open and it keeps chiming every few minutes to close the door even though all the doors are closed. I put the refrigerator in diagnostic mode and test number 17 failed. Test 17 is RC Right, Pantries, FC Doors switch Input. I'm not sure what that means though. I think it means refrigerator right hand side door switch failed? But I opened the right side fridge door switch and checked it for continuity and it does have continuity when I press door switch close and no continuity when I depress it. What could be the issue? Also the two wires that come to the right hand switch, are they supposed to have 120 volts to them or not?

Rob, You will want to check each of the door switches to make sure that there is continuity. The switch is for power to pass through so if you touch from either wire going into the switch to chassis ground with the button pushed there should be 120 vac.

T, Most likely the switch has failed as long as the door switch is depressed when the door is closed. We have seen some cases where the plastic molding on the door itself has deformed and no longer contacts the switch when closed. You can always tape the switch closed and try the dispenser.W11396033

Hello Ashley, If your model number is actually WRF990SLAM00 you will need to check the wiring harness at the door hinge and the door switch. This could also a possible power supply issue on the main-board that supplies power to the dispenser board. To eliminate this as a possibility, you can use a test meter at J2-4 or J5-1 to ground for 14Vdc. If this voltage is not there, the main board or wiring are in question.
