Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Fuse (Part Number: OEM18024984)

1 Answer

Mariel, Would suggest checking power to the motor when the start button is hit. If there is power to the motor but will not turn then the issue will be a faulty motor. If there is no power getting to the motor then the issue will be the control board.

Hello David, This could be the thermal fuse WP3392519. You will need to test it to be sure since there is no visual indicator of this parts' failure. If it is open, you will need to check the exhaust ducting in the home since a ducting restriction is the number one cause of the thermal fuse failure.

MHGR5, The first thing to check would be the harness between the console and the machine board. If the wiring harness checks ok and all the connections are good then this would be a faulty machine control board which will need to be replaced. The control board is part number WPW10110641.

Gregory for Model Number LGQ8611LW1

Hello, Our dryer is only running in certain cycles. It seems that I have to turn it while I'm pressing the start button, and I can only get it to start in the Timed phase. Sometimes I also have to "push" the timer button firmly with the start button to get the dryer to start. It is drying the clothes fine and completing a cycle once it starts. Have had this problem for about a week. Do you think it is the thermal fuse or a timer issue or something else? The dryer is 12 years old and have had no other problems. Thank you.

1 Answer

Gregory, It's not a WP3392519 Thermal fuse problem, If it were the dryer wouldn't start or run. However, it does sound like a timer WP3406725 problem. your description indicates the internal timer cam switches or the timer cam wheel is damaged and the contacts aren't opening or closing at the proper increment. Replace the timer and you'll be fine for a while longer. Thanks

Tom, With the unit heating but no drum rotation would most likely be a stuck centrifugal switch on the motor which would require the motor to be replaced. Before replacing you will want to open the unit up and clean the unit out from lint and make sure that there is not lint clogged in the motor. If this checks ok then the motor is the most likely cause of the issue.

Hello M.N. Yes, WE4X800 is the thermal fuse. it is located on the heater housing on the unit. You will need to access the element behind the drum to replace the part. Thanks.
