GW, We Agree, your issue is in the keypad / control panel assembly WPW10175347, You'll probably find that you use the normal wash on, and the start keypads most often, and the circuit has become weak and started to fail.

Steve for Model Number 66513742K601

My five year old Kenmore dishwasher, model 665.13742K601, will not start. Four of the "Cycles" buttons, "Pots/Pans", "Normal Wash", "Light Wash", "Fast Wash," light up when pushed but "Smart Wash" and "Quick Rinse" do not light up when pushed. None of the "Options" buttons, including "Start" light up when pushed, but the "Heated Dry" light does come on when one of the four working "Cycles" buttons is pushed. Please let me know what you think the problem is. Thanks.

Jon, A voltage issue (low or high "spike" could cause an issue. Also check and make sure the connections inside the junction box of the dishwasher are good and tight. And of course there is the basic age of the part. As long as there's power to the dishwasher the fuse is active and carrying voltage.

Hello Driveguy. It is normal for the unit to run almost 3 hours during a Normal wash cycle. You could have a bad sensor on the unit causing the issue with the unit.

Susan for Model Number MDBH979AWB2

Problem first began with not being able to turn off heat dry when pressing button. After a few weeks of this, I went to start a load of dishes. The light came on for normal wash, the light came on for heated dry and would not turn off when pressed, and the dishwasher itself wouldn't come on when pressing start (start light wouldn't come on either even though the other two lights were on). The normal and heated wash lights come on now for a few seconds and then shut off. Please advise.

Victor, You will want to make sure that you are getting 120 vac to the control board. If you are getting 120 vac to the control board then check the door switches to make sure that they are good. If they check ok then the control board would be the most likely cause of failure.
