D. Page November 17, 2013 for Model Number 596.76264700 Frig compartment is warm. I think it may be the thermistor. Problem is I'm reluctant to pop the plastic cover in fear of breaking some plastic. Question is if the defroster timer is stuck in the defrost mode, wouldn't the freezer be warm also? Both fans seem to be running.
1 Answer D. Page, If the defrost control was sticking in defrost then yes the freezer would not be cold but warm. If the unit is not going into the defrost then the freezer will still be cold but not as cold as normal and the refrigerator will be warm in which case you want to check the defrost heater and thermostat. If these have continuity then they are good and the control would be faulty. Read More...

Mickee S. November 04, 2013 for Model Number MBR2256KES Problem; The refrigerator (top section) is not cooling, no air is coming out of the air duct, the fan is working properly as I covered the freezer vent (duct) located in the rear of the freezer compartment with tape and now cold air is blowing from the top vent like it should. I assume there is some type of valve or flapper that controls the cold air flow to the upper refrigerator area. Would it be a control or stuck valve(flapper) that is the problem. Everything else works fine, ,I clean the coils, compressor and fan area yearly with compressed air and a vacuum so its almost as clean as it was when new. Thanks so much for this fix it yourself help section. Mickee
1 Answer Mickee, The only vent that would be for the refrigerator compartment is in the refrigerator. It is the duct that the air blows out of at the top rear of the refrigerator section. There is a damper there and if the damper is not opening then the unit will not get cold air from the freezer. You will want to check the damper for operation but also pull the rear cover in the freezer and check to see if there is heavy frost building up on the coils. If so then it would be a defrost issue in which you will need to test the defrost thermostat and heater for continuity. If there is no continuity then replace the part. If there is continuity then the control board in the refrigerator section would need to be replaced. Read More...
Pp October 19, 2013 for Model Number 59678573801 My fridge is too cold. I set it at 38F and it runs at 33F, less in the lower portion, so my salad freezes. What could the problem be? How should I trouble shoot it? Thank you!
1 Answer PP, Your first checks need to be to the interior and shelves. First remove the crisper bins ands check for debris and wrappers on the bottom of the refrigerator compartment, especially the rear corners, if there is something blocking the slots in the floor, this disrupts the air flow and causes over cooling. Check and make sure the bottom of the door gaskets are clean and they close and seal across the lower mullion flange. Check and make sure there are no articles hanging over the sides or front of the shelves, or against the back and side walls, this also disrupts the air flow and "traps" air at the bottom of the compartment. Check the top shelf, make sure theres no large or bulky article in the center of the shelf, this will redirect the air away from the control panel and thermistor, it will also force the air down the back wall and cause freezing in the crispers. Herb October 01, 2013 for Model Number KBFA25ERSS Where is the thermistor on my refrigerator and how do I get at it? Do you have a diagram? How do I install the new thermistor?
1 Answer Hello Herb, The thermistor 12002355 is located behind a small cover WP67003924 against the rear wall near the ceiling of the freezer compartment. To replace it, remove the cover with a small screwdriver in the slot and pry it to the left. One side of the cover will pop off and swivel around and the two tabs will come out. Slide the thermistor out of the cover and cut the wires near the old thermistor. Now strip about 1/2 inch of these two wires and use the two crimp on connectors to connect the two wires to the two wires on the new thermistor after you have trimmed the wires down to about 6 inches in length. Once connected, fill the ends with grease to repel moisture and deter corroision. Now re-assemble the thermistor back into the cover, insert the two tabs back into the slots, and rotate the cover around and snap it into place. Read More...
