Melissa April 19, 2021 for Model Number wrs315snhm01 my frig side is at about 60 and the freezer holds about 44. i have turned up high as will go. frig not very old. fan and condenser both seem to run fine and coils underneather are clear. thinking thermastat. finding online its called a thermastir. is this right part?
1 Answer Hello Melissa, if the evap and condenser fans and the compressor are running, check if the evap coils are completely frosted over as in a "not defrosting" condition otherwise this will be a sealed system problem. Read More...
Woody March 17, 2021 for Model Number MZF34XI6D00 I have a Maytag Upright Freezer It keeps freezing up at the condenser about every 3 to 4 days I replaced the heater and thermistor even though it tested ok with continuity so it froze up again I then replaced the fan motor with an upgraded motor and it still freezes up it has a thermistor inside the freezer part 10384183 Can that thermistor cause it to freeze up if not what would you suggest to try the seal on the door is good Can I ask you for your expert advice please Thank you, Woody?
1 Answer Woody, the main control W11382529 is supposed to defrost the evaporator every 8 hours of compressor run time. For this unit to not defrost, the main control would be the issue at this juncture. Read More...
John March 07, 2021 for Model Number WRT518SZFG00 Had noise in freezer from fan removed back freezer panel and found the evaporator iced up, fan works ice was hitting fan. What can be my problem. Thanks, John
1 Answer John, the defrost heater W11220371, defrost bi-metal W11502499, or control W11371382 could cause this issue. The defrost heater can be tested from the control after unplugging the refrigerator power cord. From the brown wire to the white wire on the control, the defrost heater and bi-metal would be tested and it should measure between 30O to 40O of resistance. If the measurement is not good, the heater and bi-metal would need to be tested individually. The heater should measure the resistance mentioned and the bi-metal should have continuity if it is operating properly. If the measurements were correct when testing from the control, the control has failed. Read More...
Kirk July 10, 2020 for Model Number 106.51335710 My refrigerator is 60 degrees and the freezer is 21. There is frost on the back wall so I took back wall off and found evaporator iced up like it has not gone into defrost. Heater ohms out good. What other components may need to be replaced?
1 Answer Kirk, the defrost thermal fuse [W10911770] harness would need to be tested for continuity by using the white wire at the liner connection to the white wire going to the defrost heater. The same will be done for the brown wire. If there is not continuity, the wire harness would need to be replaced. If there is continuity, then the failure is most likely at the main control board W11212392. Read More...
Charlie February 24, 2020 for Model Number WRT318FZDMo2 I need to know what ohm setting on a multi-meter to use when checking Whirlpool part # wpw10384183 evaporator thermistor. And Part# W10838965 INSIDE refrigerator compartment thermistor placed on a plastic panel ? Need to check to see if the parts I have are bad. Thanks...
1 Answer Hello Charlie, the thermistors are checked either at room temp 77 deg and have an ohm value about 2700 ohms, or at 36 deg (in ice water) with a value of 7964 ohms. The meter should be set at a higher range than the highest ohm rating of the part so that would be 10,000 ohms (10k). Read More...
Ken November 13, 2019 for Model Number WZF56R15DW00 Our Whirlpool freezer sounds the same tone at the end of the compressor cycle as it does when power is restored. It does this at the end of every running cycle. Since it seems to otherwise be functioning normally, I am at a loss about this but it must mean something(?) Thanks,
1 Answer Hello Ken, first, check the electrical outlet the freezer is plugged into that the line cord plug is tight, using a multimeter check the voltage at the outlet, is it steady around 120v or does it drop under load once the compressor starts, (low would be under 105v) ,if all checks ok the control board would need to be replaced part W11382528. Scott February 13, 2019 for Model Number Maytag Model Number:MRT311FFFZ00 I have a Maytag refrigerator that is not defrosting. I have checked the defrost heater at 36 Ohms and the defrost heater inline fuse checks ok. I have replaced the control board and it still is not defrosting. I need to run the diagnostics mode but the directions on the Service and Wiring Sheet do not seem to match my refrigerator. I don't know is what the resistance of the two thermistors should be - below is what I have measured. (there is no info on the service and wiring sheet): freezer thermistor T-O-D 1733 J (18 kOhm cold) (2.7 kOhm warm) refrigerator thermistor T-O-D 1725 J (8 kOhm cold) (3.2 kOhm warm) #W10384183 The T-O-D 1725 J is printed on the thermistor and I saw a reference as part W10384183. I have not seen a part number for the T-O-D 1733 J thermistor. My local parts store says they think I should replace the bimetal but my refrigerator does not have a bimetal. I suspect maybe it's the thermistor in the fridge section that only has a variance of 4.8 kOhm ? Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
1 Answer Scott, the resistances on your thermistors are reading good. The 18 kOhm on the freezer is indicating a temperature around 5 degrees Fahrenheit and the refrigerator thermistor is indicating 35 degrees. To enter diagnostics, just to the outside of the first and the last LED should be hidden keys, these are the SW1 and SW2 that you would see in the service sheet that you are referencing. Once you activate the diagnostics, you can select the heating test and this will allow you to do a voltage test to make sure that the heater and in line bi-metal fuse are getting the 120VAC necessary to defrost. Jeff October 09, 2018 for Model Number WRF560SFYM04 1. how many thermistors are physically clipped to the cooling tubes of the cooling coils located behind the rear panel of the freezer section? 2. Also, what controls the activation of the defrost heater cable? 3. Is there a defrost timer or thermostat that controls the defrost cycle for this refrigerator model? Please advise.
1 Answer Jeff, One thermistor attached to evaporator and the main control board supplies voltage to the heater. The thermistor on the evaporator tells the control when its time to defrost. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Bob. You will want to test the thermistor for resistance. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html We will need your model number to help you with this.
