Mark May 05, 2014 for Model Number ghw9400pw0 My front loader needs a new outer tub assembly, I noticed on one of the questions they asked what would cause the damage and your response was that it was caused by the spin basket having either a broken arm or the screws have come out. It looks like that is the case upon doing the test you recommended. My questions is does the spin basket also need to be replaced if that is the case?
1 Answer Hello Mark. Yes, if the spider or basket is damaged, it will need to be replaced as well. Read More...
Darlene March 02, 2014 for Model Number ghw9400pw0 My front loader washer started making a banging noise. My husband took it apart and found that the plastic front tub assembly was all chewed up and the filings were all in the pump assembly. He wants to replace the front tub assembly but I am concerned as to what caused it to happen. Did something else go bad causing the tub to wear apart like that?
1 Answer Hello Darlene, This damage was initiated by the spin basket WPW10269756 "spider" having either a broken arm or the screws have come out. You can verify this by pushing up on the center top of the spin basket. Turn the spin basket 1/3 of a turn and do it again. Turn it 1/3 of a turn and do it one more time. If the spinner support has an issue, one of the three positions you tried will have much more play than the other two positions. Read More...

Kate December 03, 2013 for Model Number GHW9250MW0 I started noticing water on my floor and inside the drawer of the washing machine stand. It is not a lot of water, but it is some. Does not look like the hoses are damages in the back and the water is NOT coming from the front door. It is a front loader from whirlpool and is about 10 years old. The debate is whether it is worth fixing or if I should just move to to buying a new machine since it is 10 years old- depending on what it is and if it is pricey to fix. My neighbor said it may be some sort of seal that could be wearing away inside?
1 Answer Hello Kate. Remove the back access panel and run the unit looking for the leak. Then determine if the price of the part is worth the repair. Thanks. Read More...
Tonya August 04, 2013 for Model Number GWH9300PW4 I have been hearing a sqeaking noise in my washer a few weeks ago . Just a couple of days ago i did some towels and it sounded like a loud banging noise it was rubbing up against the drum. I was reading some other questions that we asked and Iwas thinkingit may be the worn bearing? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You, Tonya
1 Answer Tonya, This issue would be caused by either a bad spinner assembly or a bad bearing. Normally when the bearing goes out it will have a loud roar to it during the spin cycle. You can open the door of the unit and try to lift up and on the spinner assembly and if the inner drum itself moves up and down independent of the outer tub then the most likely cause would be a broken weld on the spinner. Bandmom December 10, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool Duet My 6 year old front load washer made some horrible noises the other night before stopping its cycle, and when I checked it, the drum will not spin. When I tried to see why, I could tell the drum is no longer aligned, and I couldn't pop it back into place. What is the most common reason this would happen, and how serious could it be? The washer will not work at all, since the drum cannot spin. It is not leaking water.
1 Answer Hello Bandmom, It sounds like the bearings went out on the rear tub and rear tub would need to be replaced. Read More...
Danny W. May 01, 2012 for Model Number 110.42922200 There is a banging noise and squeeking wash and spin cycle. I have small chips of plastic in the wash. When I manually rotate the stainless basket, it is very smooth. Note it runs very nicely if I put it in the delicate mode with no load in the the tub. What could be the problem? shocks gone bad?
1 Answer Hello Danny. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the bearing is bad if there is plastic in the tub. You will need to replace the outer tub W10772618 and if the front tub is damaged to bad, you will need to replace it as well. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Peter. No, it is not easy to replace the outer tub, but can be done. 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Turn off the water supply to the washer. 3. Pull the washer away from the wall. 4. Remove the detergent dispenser assembly. 5. Loosen the clamp and remove the main water feed tube from the detergent dispenser. 6. Pull the free end of the main water feed tube from the tub opening. 7. Remove the eight hex-head screws from the front frame and remove the frame. 8. Remove the 1/2? bolts (3 each) from the front top and bottom tub weights, and remove the weights from the tub. 9. Rotate the support out of the way, and remove the three 1/2? bolts from the top rear weight, then remove the weight from the washer. 10. Remove the bellows from the tub. 11. Using a shallow pan to catch the water, unscrew the filter from the drain pump, and drain the water from the pump. 12. Loosen the clamp and remove the pumpto- tub hose from the drain pump. REASSEMBLY NOTE: When you reconnect the hose, align the tab with the arrow on the drain pump. 13. Remove the rear panel. 14. Loosen the clamp and remove the vent tube-to-tub end. 15. Remove the basket drive pulley from the basket shaft. 16. Remove the T-20 Torx screw from the ground wire that is connected to the bearing hub, and pull the wire out of the tub holes. 17. Disconnect the pressure hose from the pressure switch. 18. Remove the drive motor from the tub. 19. Remove the temperature sensor and heater from the tub. 20. Remove the four motor control unit wiring standoffs from the tub. Squeeze in on the standoff tabs to release the standoffs. 21. Remove the four shock absorbers from the tub. To remove a shock absorber: a) Remove the 11/16? (17 mm) mounting bolt and nut from the base. b) Using a pair of pliers, turn the top of the shock absorber 90° so that the locking tabs align with the slots in the tub, and remove the shock absorber. REASSEMBLY NOTE: When you reinstall the shock absorbers in the base mounting brackets, tighten the nut until it contacts the bracket, then turn the nut an additional 1/4-turn. 22. Remove the end of the vent tube from the tub. 23. To remove the tub and basket: a) Lift the tub and basket assembly and unhook the two suspension springs, then remove the assembly from the washer, and place it front-side down on a padded surface. b) Remove the flat nuts from the tub. c) Mark the edges of the tub clamps with a pencil to make it easier to reinstall later. d) Use a large flat-blade screwdriver and pry off the tub clamps. e) Use a large flat-blade screwdriver and pry the tub halves apart, then lift the rear half of the tub off the front half. f) Lift the basket from the front half of the tub. Hope this helps. Read More...
