The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Daniel. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the gas valve WPW10293048 is bad on the unit and will need to be replaced. It sounds like the pressure regulator in the unit is not allowing the gas to flow properly into the unit. Make sure the gas coming to the unit is good, and the pressure coming to the valve is good on the unit.

While in bake mode the oven will come to temp but then have trouble relighting to maintain temp. It will click and spark but not always relight. After a while it will work but often after numerous unsuccessful attempts. I have tested resistance at the gas valve and have about 230 for both bake and broil witch is normal i believe. I also have 9.3 volts DV from red to orange and orange to blue (bake/broil) . Where do I go next? It seems it is either the gas valve or the spark/burner assembly? Any suggestions?

Hello David. It sounds like a grounding issue. You will need to replace the bake burner with the spark igniter 8190618.

My oven displays 350 degress at start, but it takes 10 to 15 minutes for it to preheat. The temperture is not hot, its warm. Whatever I set the temperature to it starts over counting down for pre-heating, then sometimes it takes a long time for me to hear the ignition, mostly when it is set at a high temperature. Sometimes I smell gas while it is trying to heat up. It took me 3 hours to bake a 9 inch pan of cornbread once. I played with the temperature control settings after trying to get the oven hot. Sometimes I here the flames come on, but most of the time not. Why does it do that? I have also changed the calibration setting on the clock. It's up to 30 level on the display panel.

Hello Angela, The problem you are describing sounds like a weak ignitor W10918546. You should also inspect the burner 98004314 as they give a lot of problems when they get old, corroded, and rusty.

Mike, Based on your post, it sounds like an issue in the gas valve WPW10293048, but here are the checks you should make to varify, " First thing, check and make sure the power cord is attached to a properly polarized and grounded 120 VAC outlet. A proper ground is very important for the range to operate properly. Then you'll need to make several tests at the gas distribution valve. You'll need a multi meter to test voltage and resistances. At the valve body terminals, with the wires labeled and remove from the middle terminal to each of the outer terminals, you should read 215 ohms resistance. With the wires reconnected, when you select the bake cycle, you should have a reading of 8 to 18 VDC across the red and orange wires. When you make a broil selection you should have the same 8 to 18 VDC,across the orange and blue wires. If all checks are proper(within 10%) repalce the oven bake burner and or igniter." Thanks and Good Luck
