The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Gas Valve (Part Number: OEM18056706)

Hello John. Yes, if the valve WPW10293048 were bad, the unit would still spark to try and lite the burner. If there is no spark, it sounds like the spark module would be the culprit. Thank you.

Hello John. Is the igniter in the oven sparking when the broil is selected? If not, and there is power to the module, you may have a bad spark module WPW10331686 and the module will need to be replaced. If the unit is sparking, but no gas is releasing, you may have a bad gas valve assembly WPW10293048 and the valve assembly will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Bruce, The issue is more likely a faulty DSI module circuit WPW10331686 or gas valve coil issue WP9763716 . You will need a multimeter to test the resistance of the coil and DC voltage to the gas valve from the module. You should have a resistance reading of 215 ohms from the center terminal to each outside terminal on the gas valve with the wires disconnected. With the wires connected and the bake selection and temperature selected you should read 8 to 18 volts dc from the orange(middle wire) to the outside red wire. and with broil selected you should have the same voltage from the orange wire to the outside blue wire. Here's some meter usage information should you need it [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html]

Angela for Model Number WFG371LVQ 1

1. When I turn on my oven, it sounds like it is trying to ignite but then igniter turns off, and I smell gas until I push cancel button. (The stove top burners and the broiler works). 2. The installation instructions say "the oven bake burner should light within 8 seconds." Also states "Under certain conditions it may take the burner up to 50 to 60 seconds to light. What does this mean - "under certain conditions?" 3. From reading other Q & A, it looks like I could have an igniter or gas valve problem. If gas valve is bad, should I replace or have a professional replace it? I know I can replace the igniter myself. Thanks for your help.

Angela, Check and make sure the burner tube is totally clean, especially in the area of the igniter, check and make sure the igniter has a bright white spark, when trying to ignite the gas( be careful). Based on your post, you may have a weak bake burner circuit in the DSI spark module or a loose connection WPW10331686 . "Under Certain Conditions" relates to several possibilities, usually due to a gas flow/pressure issue, low pressure, seldom used oven , debris in the gas line and more. As for replacing the distribution valve or DSI module, we're sure you can do it, it's no more difficult than replacing the igniter. Thanks and Good Luck

Kevin for Model Number SF362LXST0

I have a 4 year old Whirlpool SF362LXST0. The cooktop works fine, but the broiler and bake function work intermittently. Either one will light OK, but then at random times seem to shut off. The oven will try to re-light, which works some of the time. Sometimes it will retry multiple times then shut off. Both the broil and bake will consistently stay on if the door is open. The resistance of the Gas Distribution Valve solenoids measures 189 and 192 ohms. Since both broil and bake are acting strangely, I don't think it is in both igniters or burners. Seems like most likely culprits are Gas Distr Valve or Spark Module. What do you suggest?

Dave for Model Number GS563LXSS

I have read many of the symptoms relating to the oven/broiler not lighting but the stovetop working fine. These are the same symptoms I have and based on this majority of the discussions, I ordered a spark module. I replaced the module and still have the same symptoms. I have checked the voltages across the orange and red wire (bake position) as well as the orange and blue wire (broil position). I get a momentary spike in voltage as the igniter tries to start in the bake position. I get 55 volts that slowly declines over a few minutes in the broil position but I do not hear the igniter start. I have no gas flowing in both cases. Based on the discussions, it sounds like I may have a couple of issues but I believe the spark module isn't one of them. Where should I turn my atten to?

Hi Dave. The The bake ignitor is part # WP9758079. The broil ignitor is part # WP8054129. The spark module is part # []. It is unusual that both ignitors are defective at the same time. They should ohm out between 50-800 ohms cold. Not open , 0 or infinity. It sounds like the spark module is defective as both are having issues. This part # is WPW10331686. At the back of the control panel or the Drawer there is a service tech . sheet to assist if there are any fault codes to decipher in the service mode. If we can assist. you further, let us know. Thank You.

Hi David. The gas valve is part # WPW10293048. The oven igniter is part # 4342528. Inspect this also to see if the middle is cracked,it should ohm out between 50-800 ohms cold. Thank you.
