This water inlet valve regulates the flow of household water into the appliance. When the control energizes the solenoid, it opens to deliver the correct amount of water for filling and operation, restoring proper flow and performance.

  • Controls on/off flow from the household water supply
  • Opens when signaled to provide the correct amount of water for fill functions
  • Helps maintain consistent water flow to the system
  • Common failure symptoms: no water flow, slow fill, intermittent filling, or leaking at the valve body
What's included: One water inlet valve assembly Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing
  • Place a towel to catch residual water and relieve line pressure
  • Note tubing and wire locations before removal; transfer any brackets or clips as needed
  • After installation, restore water and power, check for leaks, and purge air from the lines

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18150924)

Lessa W for Model Number MDBH945AWW

We had rats that came in and chewed up the inlet, air/water and the Hose/injector. I have replaced them they are now ok. I have a leak at the compression fitting where it hooks to the intake valve. I took apart the fitting to the valve and re taped with plumbers tape. The leaks seems to be right at the compression fitting where the water comes in. Is there suppose to be a seal in there, or do I need to replace the flex hose from the water supply?

1 Answer

Lessa, There would not be a seal on the valve inlet. This sounds like it would be the hose causing this issue.

Hello Carl. You will need to replace the water valve on the unit. To know which one you need for your model, we will need the serial number of the unit. You can call us at 1-877-477-7278 and we will be glad to look that up for you! Thank you.

The dishwasher in our new house leaks through a faulty door gasket/seal - this was found during the home inspection. When I began to troubleshoot the issue, I noticed that the tub fills with (and doesn't drain) water without the dishwasher having been run. When I drain the tub (the drain function on the dishwasher works when you hold down that button) and shut off the water supply, the problem doesn't resurface. When I turn the supply valve back on to hand-wash some dishes in the sink, the tub begins to fill again at a very slow rate - the over-spill might start to happen after 24 hours or so of having hot water pressure. I disconnected the power to the unit at the circuit breaker and tested the resistance of the water inlet valve. This reading was right at 1,000 ohms, which I understand is right in the middle of the working electrical specification. I have to assume at this point that the valve is slightly stuck in the open position, or that there's a faulty gasket or o-ring in that part. Along with ordering a new door gasket, I am looking for validation that Whirlpool part 6-920534 is my most likely point of failure in relation to this problem. Many thanks, Joe

Joe, You are correct that the water valve is slightly open or the seal in the valve has gone bad and needs to have new valve W11082871replaced.

Hello Phil, The only screen on a dishwasher is in the water inlet valve. Remove the water supply line from the unit and the screen should be inside the water inlet. It is part of the valve.

Hi Kenneth. Remove the float switch cover. Is the float stem jammed off to one side not allowing full voltage to supply the valve? Bypass the switch wires together and then check for the 120 vac. Your neutral wire color is a blue color from the control board J9 connector. The hot 120 vac comes via the blk. on the water valve, drain motor, dispenser and the vent all the way from the black feed on the control board then the junction box. You need to use a volt meter with the black meter lead on a fresh ground and then the red meter lead on each black wire at each part to see where the 120 vac + leg may have a loose or a mis crimp. The door switches have 2- separate feeds. One switch is the white wire (neutral) feed from the junction box. The black wire from the junction box feed goes to the other door switch. You use the supplied wiring diagram in the toe kick cover or by the controls. Start at the water valve and then check each connection point going back while following the wiring diagram. You may have a chewed wire from varmits. Make sure the wire nuts are tight and the wires have sufficient twisted connection under the wire nuts. It is common for a solid wire and a stranded wire will not get "capped " and twisted together. The stranded wire has a tendency to get pushed onto the wire coating at the bottom of the bare stripped wire instead of the correct twist together method. Thank You. --

Hello Gokhan. You will need to check and see if the motor seal kit WP6-919539 is stripped out on the motor and is not turning the impeller WP99002659 enough the circulate the water. Hope this helps.
