For Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18018204)

David for Model Number Kitchenaid KSSC42QMS02

I believe my water inlet valve is bad and I want to replace it. You carry the part (AP6006065) but it's out-of-stock. I will order it as soon as I'm able to remove the old one. I know where it is and I have eyes on it. But I can't remove it unless I detach the water inlet line from the valve. My problem is, all the videos show the water inlet line attached with a 1/2" nut. Mine is not. There is a white collar that looks like it needs to be pushed into a yellow collar where it enters the valve. I think this releases the line, is that correct? I have tried pushing with my fingers but it won't budge and I don't want to break anything because, at least I can still now get filtered water. If this is the correct procedure, any tricks on how to get the white collar to release? If I find I can't do this, how can I find a service tech in San Diego who is competent to help me? Thanks so much.

Hello David, the water valve uses JohnGuess type tube fittings, the collar is pressed inward which unlocks the tubing which is then pulled out.

Hello Michael. Per manufacturer, 1. Unplug the refrigerator or disconnect the power. 2. Remove the two screws from the base grille and remove the grille. 3. Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator. 4. Position a container to catch the water in the next step. 5. Disconnect the 1/2? nut from the water valve inlet. 6. Remove the two hex-head mounting screws from the water valve mounting bracket. 7. Pull the water valve forward and disconnect the water outlet tubing nut(s). 8. Disconnect the solenoid connector(s) from the water valve terminal(s).

Hau, The easiest way to test a fill valve, is to disconnect the wires, place the meter leads from a multimter across the two wires and check for 120 VAC across the wires when the paddle is pressed. For the icemaker, you'd do the same procedure, and then start a ice maker test mode and check for voltage across the wires when the ice maker control reaches the fill increment. The access information you requested is on it's way. Thanks

Hello John, The water inlet valve WP2188786 on these units are usually located under the unit. The kick panel has to be removed and, unless the installer provided a water cut off in the water line, the water to the home will have to be turned off. It is also a good idea to turn off the power switch on top of the unit or flip the breaker off to it.
