The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component is crucial for starting the wash cycle, as it opens to allow water to enter and closes to stop the flow once the appropriate level is reached, ensuring efficient wash performance.

Causes of a bad Water Inlet Valve can include mineral deposits and sediment build-up, which can obstruct the flow of water, or mechanical failure such as a broken solenoid that prevents the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • Water not filling the tub at the beginning of the cycle
  • Water leaking from the valve
  • Washer not starting due to inability to fill
  • Unusual noises from the valve area during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Tony for Model Number 400090C

Today my washer started to malfunction. When knob was pulled to start a wash cycle the water would not dispense. When turned to other parts of cycle (ex spin) the washer would spin and function normally. I turned the water temperature knob and then turned dial to start wash cycle. Water would come out but only for about 10 seconds before stopping. Also, after a couple of attempts only hot water would dispense regardless of the wash temperature setting. Also, when water shuts off sometimes there is a noise of something similar to a switch inside the machine being toggled on and off. Does this sound like a faulty water inlet valve? Tony, Based on the description and water running in for 10 second then this will most likely be an issue with the water temp switch WPW10184148.
