The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component is crucial for starting the wash cycle, as it opens to allow water to enter and closes to stop the flow once the appropriate level is reached, ensuring efficient wash performance.

Causes of a bad Water Inlet Valve can include mineral deposits and sediment build-up, which can obstruct the flow of water, or mechanical failure such as a broken solenoid that prevents the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • Water not filling the tub at the beginning of the cycle
  • Water leaking from the valve
  • Washer not starting due to inability to fill
  • Unusual noises from the valve area during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM9283632)

Joe for Model Number WTW5100VQ0

I just bought a used washer WTW5100VQ0. Everything thing works fine. When I removed the cabinet to clean the inside of the machine I noticed that water valve that is installed is part number 285805. This model takes the intake water valve part number WP8578340 which has a hose pressure relief connector is connected just before you clamp the water pipe to the water valve. The water valve that is installed does not have a connection for the pressure relief connector. Is it safe to operate the washer without the hose pressure relief connector connected to the water valve?

1 Answer

Joe, If the unit has been operating with the current water valve then it would not harm the unit to keep this valve in place. It is always recommended to use the valve that is for the unit though.

Hello Ed. No, this is for a top load washer. Not a stack unit. At this time, we do not have one for a stack unit. Sorry.

John, This unit has a electronic temp switch on it which could cause the unit to act this way if it is faulty. The part number for the temp switch is WPW10184148.

Kenny, This will most likely be caused by the temp switch on the unit. The temp switch will be part of the control assembly which is part number WP33001048.

Rene for Model Number 11024732300

The washer would not fill with water and start. I replaced the fill valve I bought from you according to very good instructions. It still doesn't work. I can hear a hum even with the lid open and the lid switch manually operated. Note: Before I had a problem with operating at all, the switch that controls wash/rinse temp only worked on two of the three settings. When we tried to use third setting, machine would not work at all. Please help! Thanks, Rene

Hello Rene. You will need to make sure the water is turned on for the water valve if the valve is humming.

Dl for Model Number GHW9100LW1

Washer has worked fine for years. Gave it to my mother-in-law a couple of years ago. She just told me that no matter the setting, only hot water comes into the machine. I have verified the hot/cold water lines are correct. Thought it might be the inlet control valve, but that didn't seem to make sense due to the voltage supplied to the solenoids being separate. Best guess? I'll be visiting her this weekend and would like to fix it for her then. Thanks.

DL, For this issue it would be more likely that the control board would be causing hot water to come into the unit no matter the setting.

Hello Travis. It sounds like the temp switch is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Andy. If you can stop the water from entering the machine by turning off the timer or unplugging the unit, you will need to look for a bad pressure hose or replace the pressure switch. If the only way to shut off the water is at the shut off for the water hoses, you will need to replace the water valve in the unit.
