The Whirlpool refrigerator dual solenoid icemaker water inlet valve is an OEM replacement part responsible for controlling the water flow to the refrigerator's icemaker. It is typically located at the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom, where the water supply line connects to the refrigerator. The water valve receives signals from the refrigerator's control board to open and close, allowing water to flow into the icemaker.

The Whirlpool water inlet valve can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Failure to make ice or limited ice production
  • Loud or unusual noises coming from the water valve

Hello Cedric, It is possible that the water valve could be faulty. You may want to check to make sure that the dispenser lever is making contact with switch. This is possible by removing the front cover of dispenser. Once off then yu would want to push on the lever and look and listen to see if the lever makes contact with switch. If the switch makes contact then you can do a voltage check at the valve to make sure there is power getting to it. You should have 120vac when the dispenser lever is pressed at the water valve dispenser side. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Alice, If the fill tube is frozen, you can thaw it out with a hair dryer and never remove it. As a matter of fact, many models produced today have fill tubes that will not come out. If the fill tube is frozen and the water pressure to the unit is sufficient, the water inlet valve will require replacement. If not, the ice maker is at fault.
