The Charcoal Filter is an OEM part for LG microwaves. It plays a crucial role in filtering and removing odors, smoke, and grease particles from the air during cooking. It is constructed with activated charcoal, which has absorbent properties and helps to eliminate cooking odors.
Over time, the charcoal filter can become saturated and less effective in odor removal. It is recommended to replace the charcoal filter periodically to maintain optimal performance and ensure clean and fresh air in your kitchen.
Symptoms of a saturated or clogged charcoal filter may include:
- Lingering cooking odors in the kitchen
- Reduced efficiency in capturing smoke or grease particles
- The presence of visible debris or discoloration on the filter
This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

When Microwaving food, the display panel would seem to act normal, but the typical microwave sound would be absent. No microwave action would occur. Eventually an F5 code would display. Problem was the upper door switch. Found it by opening up the cabinet, removing the display panel (1 screw and a couple of plugs) and testing all three micro switched with a meter. Two switches are for the door and one for some kind of ventilation flap. They are all in the same area. Go to YouTube to see...
