Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Jennair jjw9630cas double oven doors did not close all the way and the light would not go out   Wayne W. • East Longmeadow , MA • February 13, 2016

I have a Jennair jjw9630cas double wall oven, and after a few years I noticed that the light would not go out, first in the bottom oven, and then in the top oven. After doing some research I discovered this was not uncommon, and the fix usually involved replacing the hinges and/or the hinge receptacles. It didn't look like a difficult fix so I ordered four new hinges and four new receptacles, which arrived quickly. I found a video on YouTube that showed how to replace the hinges and it... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dishwasher would not start   Mark M. • Midlothian , VA • July 16, 2016

Maytag Dishwasher (about 5 years old). Some of the buttons had stopped functioning. Then the Start button began choosing whether or not to work. Eventually it would not start at all. Upon removing the control panel, the first thing I noticed was that the brackets that hold the two lower screws were broken. (So this was the reason that the door was so hard to open from the time it was new.) I trouble shot the thermal fuse, the door-latch switches, and inspected the control board trying to find... Defrost Timer
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP3-81329

This defrost timer controls when your refrigerator or freezer enters and exits the automatic defrost cycle to clear frost from the evaporator coils. Replacing a failed timer restores reliable defrosting to help maintain airflow, cooling performance, and stable temperatures.

  • Advances on a timed schedule to initiate and end the defrost cycle
  • Sends power to the defrost heater during defrost, then returns the system to cooling
  • Helps prevent heavy frost buildup that restricts airflow and cooling
  • Common symptoms of a bad timer: unit not defrosting or warming over time, heavy ice on the evaporator/cover, stuck running or stuck in defrost, or a timer that won't advance
What's included: 1 defrost timer Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the timer (commonly in the control housing or machine compartment)
  • Note/photograph wire positions and move leads one at a time to the new timer; mount securely
  • Restore power and monitor for proper cycling; some models allow using the timer's advance slot to start a test defrost

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Frost on the liner at the lower back and warm temp   Catherine P. • Southampton , PA • August 05, 2014

Replaced the defrost timer. It was not located where the parts explode suggested in the thermostat control box which is located in the upper right corner of the liner. It was in fact outside the freezer compartment on the back lower left support (when looking at the back of the freezer). It is secured with 2 sheet metal screws with a 1/4 hex head. The manual override dial is visible through a punched hole in that support. Just remove the 2 screws, disconnect the electrical connector. Then... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice was forming in the freezer compartment of my refrigerator and my stand up freezer.   Michael K. • Tinley Park , IL • May 30, 2022

I knew it was the heater element because I have replaced a few over the years. This was the first one I replaced on a french door fridge, It was very difficult because of everything I had to take apart to get to it at the heater. Overall it took me 5 hours. The stand-up freezer has not been done yet, but that should be a lot easier because I have done it before. The problem I had is that the parts diagrams on your website made my work more difficult because when I tried to magnify the image... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Hinges were weak   Don M. • Colchester , VT • December 31, 2016

Bought and installed new hinges. Repair took about an hour but I also cleaned all the glass inside and out on both oven doors. I had ordered extra screws as I read the old ones that hold the hinges were hard to get in as they were self taping but the screw labeled 5 next to the hinge were not the right ones. All old screws worked fine. You just need to put a little power to them to get them started. Easy repair. Read more
