Oven won't light or ignites with a loud pop? A faulty igniter is usually the cause. Simple DIY fix—disconnect two screws and wire nuts to replace.
My Tappan Range, which I paid a grand total of $65.00 for, and have been using since Katrina, (Katrina in 2005 is how we measure time in South Mississippi.) I live in an old house, and I am old, too. Last winter was the coldest I can remember, and my husband (older than I and far more hard-headed) used the oven like a heater. I read all user's manuals, because I use only used stuff, I can download the manuals or read them online, and it clearly stated in there NOT to use the oven as a... Read more

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old... Oven won't light even with glowing igniter? Safety valve controls gas flow to burner. Moderately easy repair with gas line disconnect required.
My tenant thought that the oven safety valve was bad, but after some research, I found that the transfer of heat from the igniter had to be sufficient enough to cause the valve to open.Your agent confirmed this and reassured me that even if the igniter was glowing, there was a 99% chance that it wasn't getting hot enough. I ordered the igniter, and also the safety valve just in case, as we were going to be fixing this on Christmas eve, so the oven could be used for Christmas dinner. Your agent... Read more

Burner won't spark or ignite? This cooktop igniter electrode creates the spark needed to light gas burners. Simple DIY fix in under 30 minutes.
This is a Montgomery Ward gas range made by Tappan. Parts are no longer offered for this appliance. So, I had to eyeball various ignitors to determine which one would work. I settled on the least expensive one and ordered two (Just in case there were "issues"). The parts arrived quickly but were not a simple drop-in replacement. The new ones were longer and smaller in diameter. I had to use the original bracket because it provided the electrical ground for the spark. I used a spring to... Read more

Went on site, read the reviews to see how difficult it would be or if any problems. Then ordered it And received it the next day!!! The 2 screws were a bit hard to remove. Found the right screwdriver by using the 2 new screws I ordered. Once I got them out, lifted the old panel out. Pushed down on one corner so could get a grip on opposite corner to lift out. Once out, put in new one. Put in new screws and good to go! Will certainly NOT line with foil ever again!!! Read more
