Ge microwave ran when turned off if door was shut Jason A. • Cary , NC • April 02, 2017
The first symptom was our microwave would continue to run after the time was up. The light would go out, the turn table would stop but you could still hear the microwave running and whatever was in it would continue to cook. The only way to stop it was to open the door. It was intermittent at first but eventually it would always run no matter what as long as the door was closed. Several other posts referenced these switches as the problem. I just replaced both and problem gone. It turns out...

Installing replacement light bulb sockets (wb08x10016) on my ge microwave (jvm1440bd003) Peter W. • Chesterfield , VA • March 17, 2025
I recently tackled a repair on my GE microwave (model JVM1440BD003, manufactured in 2003) to replace the light bulb sockets for the under-microwave lights. Since one socket was failing, I decided to replace both at the same time to avoid future issues. I used two WB08X10016 light sockets, which are the correct OEM parts for this model.
The process started off smoothly thanks to a helpful installation video on the website. It made the job look straightforward: remove five screws to drop the...

This thermostat is a temperature-sensing safety switch used in microwave ovens. It monitors heat and opens the circuit during an over-temperature condition to protect internal components and help prevent damage. What it does:
- Monitors temperature at a specific location inside the microwave
- Interrupts power if overheating is detected to protect components
- Helps safeguard the magnetron and wiring from thermal damage
- Presents as: shuts off mid-cycle, won't restart until cooled, no power, or runs but doesn't heat
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before service; microwaves contain a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a dangerous charge—discharge it properly
- Note wire locations and transfer connections one at a time to the new thermostat
- Mount in the original location with firm, flush contact to the surface for accurate sensing
- Reinstall all covers and safety shields before restoring power and testing

Convert microwave from recycling vent to an external vent system Gaspar D. • Summerfield , NC • December 31, 2015
We followed the manufacturer's instructions about re-positioning the fan motor and installing the vent damper (easy). We used 3.25" x 10" metal duct to start the system through the wall behind the microwave, where we added framing to reinforce a cut stud. We ran the duct up a closet wall and through its ceiling into the attic. We had to make an offset duct piece from 3.25" x 10" metal duct to clear a...
