Microwave displays 'close door' message or won't start? The door interlock switch is likely failed. Moderate DIY repair—replace all 3 switches together.
After checking other reviews, we decided it was best to replace the interlocks, cam and all three switches. You're going to need a phillips screwdriver, star driver, small screwdriver and needle nose pliers. You need to remove the ONE Phillips screw above the control panel inside the vent. The contol panel is on hinges that you can slide up and towards you. Using caution remove the wires noting how they're connected. Pinch the top of the white connectors and wiggle them free. Fix a compactor ram that won't reverse or sticks at top position. This directional switch controls up/down movement. DIY repair in 15 minutes.
I removed the bottom access plate to look at the drive mechanism and check the chain and gears. I confirmed the bigger drive gear was broken in three pieces. Once I replaced the gear and adjusted the distance between the two gears (which is really close to prevent the gears from losing contact and stripping them) it works great. Read more

Supports and seals the turntable motor in your microwave. Replace if cracked, worn, or missing to maintain proper motor alignment and protection.
Very easy fix. Unplugged microwave, then lowered bottom panel, removed the two leads to the turntable motor, removed two screws attached to motor, removed old motor, put new spacer on motor stem, installed motor with same two screws, reattached the two wires, reattached panel ( after cleaning all the grease that built up over the last 6 years), plugged microwave in and good as new! Took me twenty minutes. Note: the two screws holding the motor were not Phillips like those holding the panel. So... Read more

I'm a 56 year old divorced woman. I started doing these kinds of repairs to save some money and honestly, to see if I could. So yes, if I can do it, it's not that tough to do. My microwave is built in above the stove - getting it down and back up was the hardest part of the job. An extra pair of strong hands really helps-for anybody, not just a 56 year old woman.
