Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I tested the fan outside of the freezer with an adapted direct plug-in cord and it ran fine. I tested the controller tsd it was within the good range along with the run capacitor and it tested good as well. I then tested the compressor resistance, it tested good, although the compressor could have been mechanically bad, it wasn't and I don't know of a way to test for it. I found a youtube video and tested the defrost control which seemed to be bad. Then I tested the control-temperature... Read more

They come in at least 3 sizes so be careful that you order the right one. I went to appliancespartscamp.com as they had a scale that you could look at and tell the exact size they were then ordered them from ApplicancePartsPros.com as I have used them before and had good results. Freezer won't start or compressor hums but doesn't run? A failed run capacitor is often the cause. DIY-friendly repair, typically done in under an hour.
Looked for obvious signs of mal-function, burned wires, etc. I found that the compressor controller(attached to the compressor) had an obvious burned-out spot. Took a chance that was the problem (it was); ordered all new OEM parts, including a new timer and run capacitor (a part that kicks in every time the compressor starts). I received the parts at 1 PM EST; by 1:48 PM I had the freezer working. Easily saved $250.00. A nice aside was that an Internet competitor was asking $53.00 for the same... Read more
