Fix ice not dispensing or auger not turning issues. This coupler connects the motor to the ice bin auger. DIY-friendly repair, about 20 minutes.
The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. I had to replace my frig and the upgraded model didn't come with a dairy bin. I found a review for the model in which someone had done the research and found that the Kenmore Elite had a model of refrigerator that was designed like the Whirlpool but came with the bin. He ordered it for his Whirlpool and he says it fit. I ordered one and it fit on the top notches but due to the design, it would not open.
