Fix a refrigerator that's not cooling or freezing up due to ice buildup on evaporator. Includes lights and components. Moderate DIY, 1-2 hours install.
Used a hair dryer to melt the ice but not the drain, put it back together and it worked for a few days then water came out the front on the defrost cycle. Took a hair dryer and applied heat to the drain tube on the back a couple days later I noticed the towel had dryed out, looked at the drain pan and it had water in; it hadn't before. Going to install the new cover the next time. It will take longer to take all of the drawers and shelves out than to install the cover. Read more

1. Unplug and let defrost (I had it unplugged for days, not sure if that was necessary). 2. Removed panels inside the back of the fridge (careful not to damage the wires. The start button had been tricky to use. You had to push it in just a certain way to get the dryer to start. Eventually it was non-responsive. All other controls worked and there was no error code displayed. The repair was to replace the whole control board which cost around $100. Heavy sigh.. Be sure to keep track of all your screws. I replaced the temperature sensor, the thermo fuse, and the heating element that thaws the evaporator on a cycle to keep the evaporator from freezing up. The most time consuming part of the repair was waiting for the fridge to thaw out so that I could remove the cover. I disconnected the fridge the night before and placed a fan on low with the doors open so that it was thawed out when I awoke. Replaces broken or missing spring on French door refrigerator left door flapper assembly. Ensures flapper retracts properly when door closes for tight seal.
Removed refrigerator panel, disconnected light and fan power. Removed fan assembly and replaced motor, grommets and fan attachment spring. Unit had adhesive on spring to help hold the spring. Chatted with customer service and clarified that spring and fan would easily pull off motor shaft. Adhesive probably was extra measure used during original build of the fridge.
