Fix a refrigerator that won't cool or has freezing issues. This main control board regulates temperature and system cycles. Moderate DIY repair.
This was a newer GE Monogram side-by-side unit that used an inverter compressor. I removed the inverter and used an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of each of the three windings. They were all very close to one another: about 6.8 ohms per winding. I concluded that the compressor was probably not at fault. The inverter kind of burned or chemical-ish, and, when opened, showed an electrolytic capacitor had burst. I replaced the inverter with an overnight part from Amazon. It was the same... Read more
Fix a refrigerator that won't cool or has temperature issues. This main control board manages cooling cycles, fans, and compressor operation. Moderate DIY.
Replaced the Main Control Board Assembly along with the evaporator and condenser fan motors. I thoroughly cleaned the very very dirty condenser with a 4$ brush offered by the parts specialist and while I was at it, I changed the door seals and replaced one of the door trays. Beats the crap out of spending $10,000 on a new refrigerator that because of Covid 19 wouldn't be here before the middle of November. Thank you Matt for your help! Read more

1) Remove toe kick panel - 2 Philips head screws 2) Lay down on floor. This might be the hardest part of the repair from some people! 3) Remove broken spring, no tool required. 4) Using your fingers, slip one end of new spring into hole on lever arm. (If you're not sure how it should go, look at the spring on the other door, assuming you have a side-by-side.) 5) Hook the other end of the spring around a round-shank screwdriver. (Don't even bother with pliers. You will disregard this advice... Read more

Restores bright illumination to your cooktop surface light. Replace when bulb burns out or dims to maintain safe visibility while cooking. Confirm fit.
Had to remove all three food drawers and the back panel behind the drawers (4 screws). The water tank comes with the associated tubing which would typically require access to the back of the fridge to run the new lines. Instead I clipped the existing lines inside the fridge. Then I clipped the lines off the new tank so they would line up with the old lines. I then used a 5/16" OD compression coupling (Lowes or Home Depot) to connect the ends of the tubing together. The joined tubes are... Read more

Fix food freezing or warm spots in your fridge with a new air damper assembly. Controls airflow between compartments. Moderate DIY repair, 1-2 hours.
It started with clicking sounds for about 10 seconds at random times throughout the day. eventually the clicking sounds were gone and the temperature in the fresh food section was dropping below freezing. Turns out that one of the 3 damper doors was stuck open. My fridge has a damper door in the top left and 2 doors in the bottom left. Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine.
