Oven won't heat after self-cleaning? This high-limit thermostat cuts power when temperatures get too high. Moderately easy DIY repair fix.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You After self clean cycle oven heated very slowly and never got to temp   Beth C. • Atkinson , NH • March 27, 2018

Online chat here said that the oven sensor should be replaced. I got the feeling that was a bit off, so I went with my gut and ordered the thermostat as well. Replaced the sensor and that didn't fix it. Replaced the thermostat and it worked like a charm! Disappointed that they were overconfident in their answer and it would have taken me more days to fix - but, the products came in quickly (basically, next day) and were correct. Online video for my particular oven was incorrect - but it's... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Our dryer didn't heat   Larry L. • Poway , CA • November 10, 2014

Being a complete DIY I hate to call some unknown person into my home knowing that just to get them there will cost me more than I will spend for parts that I don't need. After all, they are trying to make a living and by selling me parts that I don't need will increase their profits. I've dealt with APP before and was impressed by their site because I could find both mechanical and electrical drawings for almost everything I have. I looked up my dryer, decided what was probably the problem,... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Would run fine but would not dry clothes something would not allow the dryer to heat   Todd K. • Burr Oak , MI • March 10, 2017

For several months we could smell a slight odor of propane in the laundry room and wondered why, just didn't seem like it was enough to be overly concerned, but thought something must be wrong with the dryer, but it was still working. We just didn't know how inefficiently. Then the extra time it took to dry a load of clothes progressively seemed to get longer, but things still seemed to work fine and the clothes got dried, given enough time. Then approximately 3 weeks ago we noticed the dryer... Read more

High Limit Thermostat
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WE04X26138

The High Limit Thermostat is an OEM replacement part for GE electric dryers. Located internally near heating components, this safety device monitors drum temperatures to prevent excessive heat accumulation.

Causes of malfunction relate to water residues creating shorts, loose terminals detaching wiring due to vibrations, or a worn heat sensitive mechanism reacting slower over time.

Symptoms involve:

  • Repeated thermal cut-off trips mid-cycle
  • Inability to select heat settings without errors shown
  • Bleach or smoke smells indicating unregulated temperatures

This GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Microwave Fuse
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304509451

Microwave won't start or is completely dead? This fuse protects against electrical overload. Requires disassembly to access. Often replace with switches.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The frigidaire microwave would blow fuses on a regular basis   Loren A. • Windsor , WI • November 28, 2020

After doing some research the problem appeared to be the door safety switches. I ordered 3 new ones to replace all the original ones. Some minor disassembly of the microwave front was required to reach the fuse and switches. To reach the switches the control panel wires needed to be unplugged and the panel removed. After doing that replacing the switches was pretty strait forward. As of this comment the microwave has worked for 5 days without blowing the fuse so far. This has probably fixed the... Read more

Oven Thermal Fuse
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB24T10060

Oven won't heat or shuts off during baking? A faulty thermal fuse cuts power when detecting excessive heat. This safety device protects your range.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You GE profile in wall oven gave F 9 code and would shut off after 30 minutes   Matthew M. • Fairfield , CA • July 23, 2018

The F9 error code is supposed to indicate that the door lock mechanism has failed. My oven would give the F9 code and turn off during normal baking at 400 F after about 30-40 minutes. It turns out that GE must have programmed the error codes incorrectly in my model, because the real problem was that my control board cooling fan was no longer functional, and one of the two thermal switches was shutting off the unit when the control board area got too hot. Dryer won't heat? A failed thermal cut-off fuse cuts power when temps spike. DIYers replace this safety part in 20-30 minutes with basic tools.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My maytag gas dryer would start and the the tumbler rotate but the igniter would not glow and flame not start   .gil P. • Enumclaw , WA • March 29, 2015

The 2 sensors that sit on top of the flame tube work together. The Thrmst F should check closed, as should the Cutoff-TML, in order for power to flow to the ignitor. If the Cutoff is open, it is usually because the Thrmst-F did not open soon enough. The Thermst-F will cycle, closed to open, and repeat, however the Cutoff-HTML is a one time switch. If it opens it will not return to closed, and subsequently the ignitor will not glow. Some professionals say that if one of these sensors fail, both... Read more

When starting my dryer the motor would power up and rotoe the drum and blower. Afetr about 20-30 seconds the igniter would come on then the gas valve would open and I would get heat for about 6 or 7 seconds then it would shut off. I know the burner is suppoed to cycle on and off but once the burner shut off it would not come bqack on unless I shut the dryer off and then back on.
