Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge side wasn't staying cold massive ice build up in freezer ice blockage in fan duct   Christopher M. • Yorba Linda , CA • December 15, 2014

Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Defrost not working on upright 20 year old freezer   W D D. • Spring , TX • September 19, 2014

A word of thanks to AppliancePartsPros - they delivered in one day. Ordered at 4PM CDT and received the part by noon the next day. Also, Alicia in the help department was able to locate an electrical diagram for my old freezer. This was essential for proper setup and her persistence in tracking down the diagram was top notch. Now on to my problem. One day I opened the freezer and found frost and thawing food. I attributed this to the door hitting an item in the freezer and not completely... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana model afd2535deb freezer cold fridge too warm not defrosting   Dan R. • Woodruff , SC • November 09, 2015

Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Obviously, the auto defrost cycle had not been running, or was short-cycling. Manually defrosted. Found this link for running diagnostic tests on the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Frost buildup. Food not completely frozen. Running continuously and refrigerator too warm   Robert K. • Louisville , KY • February 07, 2021

By reading stories of other customers who had bought this part, the first thing I looked for when troubleshooting my near-18 year old Frigidaire was for the top to be erupted or raised up on the bimetal defrost. It was truly a case of “look for the simple explanation first.” Once I determined that the bimetal defrost appeared to be the culprit, I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros. The back panel (evaporator cover) on my freezer was totally encrusted with ice. So I'm waiting for this to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refigerator not cold   Robert B. • Parlin , NJ • July 10, 2016

Having never fixed a fridge before, I did a little research. The unit was not old & the cooling system was operating. Observing the frozen ice inside, I diagnosed it as the heat rod and/or it's thermostat as bad. I contacted ApplianceParts Pros, who assisted in confirming my theory. IMPORTANT NOTE: the sales advisor Joyce was truly an intelligent, knowledgable professional, NOT some "burger-order taker" usually encountered. This alone speaks VOLUMES. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Freezer was cold but refrigerator was warm   Beth M. • Marengo , IL • August 06, 2018

After we moved into our new home, we realized that the freezer was very cold and the fins were frosting over, and the refrigerator wasn't cold. We had to take it apart and manually defrost it about once every 8 to 10 days. After research online, we found Appliance Parts Pros videos, which clearly explained how to fix it ourselves, a savings of at least $1,000 or more, since a new one of this size would have been in the arena of $1,200 to $2000. We ordered the three most likely parts to be bad,... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana br18vw refrigerator wasn't staying cold   Adrian B. • Chicago , IL • February 08, 2015

I am not new to APP, fixed a tub belt on a Maytag dryer in the past. My frig started getting warm so I went onto to one of those "lists" sites and found a appliance repair place. The guys were great and came out right away. The tech said it was the cold control and $260 later my part was replaced, about 30 minutes. Great I thought until my frig started getting warm again. Those cold sensors on the beer bottles are a great indicator. Not wanting to spend another $260 I looked up on APP to see if... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Coil in freezer iced up and refrigerator would not cool   David M. • Ambridge , PA • December 10, 2015

My unit has a bottom freezer that is a drawer. I had to remove the drawer, rack, glides, glide tracks, and ice maker to remove the rear panel. This was a little difficult but after researching a few videos on line I learned some tricks that made it easier. I used a hair dryer to melt the ice. This is best done with 2 people having one at the back to sponge the water into a bowl from the pan to avoid a water mess. Using a bolt meter I checked the heating element and found it had continuity. I... Read more
