When in the spin cycle the washer was very loud. Richard M. • Arlington , WA • July 21, 2021
I knew from the loud sound during the spin cycle that the bearings were going out, I ordered a gearcase part number W11455453 (AP6993918) which has the bearings, tub seal, and shaft altogether which makes the repair much easier to complete. I will say you should also order the spanner wrench it makes taking the spanner nut off and putting back on much easier also, part number TB123B (AP6832671). With this model washer, you don't have to take the tub out you just need to take the washer plate...

Washer not spinning end of cycle Jeff C. • Morrisonville , NY • November 21, 2014
Using appliancepartspros.com site took washer apart to diagnose bad clutch. The clutch was bad but once inside I noticed grease everywhere and after a quick online chat with rep. determined gear case was leaking and needed replacement. Replaced clutch & gear case. Followed video tutorial and took a little more than 30 minutes start to finish for me - I have no experience. The most difficult part for me was actually just getting the retainer ring (little wire) to secure clutch in place-took...

Bearings in gear box M N. • La Vista , NE • April 29, 2024
Bought new Transmission/gear box.
Putting in the new one was easy. Taking the old one out was a nightmare. The corrosion on the spanner nut and drive block was awful. Ten years of VERY hard water and six kids made for a lot of corrosion and hard water crystallization.
I do not own a spanner wrench. I am not sure having one would've helped. I tried pipe wrenches, needle nose vice-grips and many other ways. What eventually worked was taking a three inch ratchet extension, putting it...

Teeth stripped from gear in transmission Robert G. • Wentzville , MO • June 17, 2015
The parts I purchased from Appliance Parts Pro fit perfectly and were reasonably priced. I received them the next day, which made the Wife (and me) very happy. Although Appliance Parts Pro did not have a repair video for this, I was able to find one online and the machine is washing like new again. The website is well laid out and easy to find what your looking for. Between the available parts and the videos they provide, anyone who is reasonably handy should be able to repair their machine as...

Whirlpool cabrio wtw5500xw0 transmission gearcase failure John H. • Fort Polk , LA • February 28, 2017
Symptoms: Machine was spinning and spitting a dark colored oil in a circular pattern on the floor under the machine. No strange noises, just messy. Researched issue, Gear-case bad, seal deteriorated and not preventing water from entering gear-case. The additional cam, belt etc I had replaced due to the amount of oil and transmission residue attached to them.
Ordered parts, EVERYTHING parts-wise that is needed is included in gear-case package.
**NOTE: You WILL need to get a whirlpool spanner...

Part Number: W10140308
This gearcase is the washer transmission housing that supports the drive gears and enables the agitator/spin functions to transfer motor torque to the wash basket. Replacing a worn gearcase restores reliable mechanical drive and reduces grinding or slipping. What it does:
- Houses the internal gears that transfer motor rotation to the agitator and basket
- Restores proper drive when worn gears cause grinding, excessive noise, or loss of agitation/spin
- Keeps lubricants and internal components contained for smooth operation
- Works with the transmission/drive assembly to maintain correct gear alignment
What's included: One gearcase housing Install notes:
- Disconnect power and water before beginning any repair; follow all safety precautions
- Some disassembly (cabinet, control console, or tub) is typically required; refer to the service manual for your model
- Inspect related seals, fasteners, and gears while accessible; replace any damaged components
