How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3968432 / WH01X10302 Drive Belt

I ordered the part and got it next day. Using wire ties to hold the belt on as I wound it in place I simply snaps into proper location. I than cut the ties off to free it for full cycle and presto back in business in less than ten minutes of work. 

I watched your video. Never would have gotten it on with out that great video and information. The only procedures I had to change was I could not get the belt to get on the big pulley using one wire tie. I put the first one on like the video showed than I rotated the pulley 1/4 turn than put another wire tie on. The second one kept the belt from flipping and allowed it to rotate around. By the time the first wire tie got to where I could cut it off the belt had started on. When the second got to the front it was on. Thanks for the video. Without it I would have torn the washer apart to get to it. I also used the video on how to remove the front panel. Never would have thought it was that easy. Thanks again 

I first checked appliancepartspros online for parts and prices. I also looked at a couple of videos to aid with disassembly. The videos are excellent, job would be very difficult and some guessing without them. Then I proceeded to tear everything down in the order dictated by the video. I bagged and labeled all screws, washers and small parts as I went along. I got to the hub nut that uses a spanner wrench and got stuck; no easy way to remove it. Since I was going to replace the nut and the shaft and tube assembly, I wasn't concerned about damaging it. So I drilled multiple holes in the nut to take it out in pieces. All other parts were disassembled easily, but I did use an impact cordless driver to help with some tight fasteners. After disassembly, I took inventory of parts and ordered replacements. I erred on the side of caution and replaced the belt, bearing, seal, shaft and tube assembly and various washers and driveline parts...almost everything that moves along the drive mechanism. Assembly was easy...but in part due to careful prep and previously bagging parts, photos and videos. Assembly took less time than disassembly, maybe half as much time. Now it works like new, smooth and quiet. I spent about $160 on parts, better than $400 for repair or $600-800 for a new machine. The only thing I'd do different in a do over is purchase a spanner wrench or a 1-11/16 deep socket to better deal with the hub nut.

My GE top-load washer started making TARDIS-like noises (louder, a cross between a whoosh and scrape) when doing the laundry. The diagnostic code read that the Mode-select solenoid was blown (a common fault). I ordered the parts and they came in the average 2 days to my house. The disassembly when well, it only took a few knocks with a mallet to spin the hub nut off, and everything else came out without issue. I found a pile of metal teeth in the bottom of the washer cabinet, apparently one of the last loads sheared off the dog-teeth that engages the spin cycle. Luckily, that gear was on the new shaft assembly, which went in without trouble. I'm a pretty slow worker on these sorts of things (the last thing I want to do is break something else), so it took me 4-5 hours over two days to wrap it up. As with any project, there's one stupid thing that takes way more time than expected. For this, it was getting the drain hose back on the pump. Remove the tub-end with the screw clamp, not the pump end with the spring clamp; the screw clamp is a lot easier! But, it works flawlessly now and I saved myself a bunch of money. 

After watching the repair videos on the site I was easily able to install the new belt. I would have not been able to complete the install without first learning the trick to getting the belt on. It was not until I opened the washer that I noticed the strap was broken. 

You sent me a belt & a Service Kit Belt Tool that is attached to the motor drive shaft. Following instructions, I put the belt in place & attempt to turn the 'belted' wheel (under the washing machine drum, which was about an inch from the floor). I'm 72, on the floor & I don't have small nimble fingers anymore. I can't turn the wheel. I get on the Internet, go to your site & 'read' comments by others about how hard it is to install the belt, (which I learn in the comments is 2" smaller than the original, but is the correct belt). - And here's the info I want to impart to others of your customers about this repair. I call a 'local' ,(20 miles away), Appliance Repair Business to schedule my bringing my GE (7 year old!! - belt broke, what? after only 2 uses a week!!), washing machine in for them to install the belt. They say, "Get a 2nd person to help you install the belt by turning the washing machine drum from up top!!??" Works like a charm, why didn't I think of that. So to all your customers, (from this 'one' customer), whatever your problem, don't get frustrated, get it done a different way from how you're trying - then have a beer. 11 

I ordered the parts suggested with 2 exceptions. I needed a hub nut wrench and I should have ordered a fuse link that had blown. The washer was loud and would not spin so I ordered the shaft and mode shifter assembly. I also replaced the seal, bushings and all washers. The Hub Nut is extremely hard to get off and after rounding the nut off and much wd40 I resorted to a short pipe wrench. After beating the finger up and a lot of banging with a hammer it came loose. The nut and split ring was both bad and disintegrating. I got it all back together and the fuse link had blown. Not much on the location of that or how to test it. But found it in the right front wiring harness, then had to strip wire down to test and replace and bingo the washer runs like new now...

Started to call the appliance repair guy but stumbled on this website. Being a DIYer and after watching the repair video I thought I'd give the repair a try. Bought the mode shifter and shaft assembly, plus belt, spanner wrench, tub bearing and washer on the first order. Realized after disassembly that I needed split ring, washer and nut as mine was very corroded. Following the awesome repair video to the letter I was able to fix the washer myself which brought me and my wife great satisfaction. While I had the machine apart, I cleaned the stainless steel tub, the plastic tub, agitator, balance ring and all hoses and it all looks new. Mr. Clean worked great for this. Props to Mark the repair video guru for easy to follow instructions and the parts folks who were patient and very helpful. I have this company bookmarked for ALL future parts and service needs.
