How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2031021 / WB44X173 Oven Broil Element

I ordered both the broiler and baked elements since the broiler had been broken for some time. The shipping cost was reasonable and I got them the next day! Although it was a relatively simple operation, it took us a while since the broiler elements wires and closeness to the top of the oven made access quite limited. In the end, it all worked out and the elements worked well. Thanks! 

Replaced the broil element with new support and a new element. 

The broiler unit actually flared up and caused a small fire (flames). The unit then broke apart next to the bracket that holds the unit in the oven. Had I been smart and taken the oven door off the repair would have been much easier. Maybe 30 minutes or less. Also, one broiler terminal had two wires on it. The screw provided was a little short to hold both wires while trying to hold the broiler unit in place to attach the screw. So I provided my own longer screw that would hold both wires while attaching the screw to the broiler terminal. Again, had I taken the door off I might have been able to hold both wires on the screw provided while attaching the wires to the broiler. Also the speed at which the unit was delivered was astounding. It was delivered in a few days and on a Sunday. Even though it took me 60 minutes or so to fix had I done it right (removed the door) it was a quick fix. I couldn't be happier with AppliancePartsPros.com

They pulled out all the stops & used the microfiche to get my part number!! THATS THE PROS part in your website name!! I had parts in a few days & did the repair/replacement successfully. 

The replacement broil element was just what I needed; fits well. Easy install, and works great now. 

Changed heating elements. Bottom one was easy. Top one needed some gyrations to reach but was doable. 

Ordered and received the baking and broiling heating elements. Being a 32 year old oven, I just decided to replace both elements and go for another 32 years. Removing the elements was somewhat difficult since I did not want to remove the oven from the cabinet. I removed the screws that held the elements in the oven only to find out that the joining wires were quite short. I could not pull out the elements more than about 2 inches from the wall. This made unscrewing the wires from the elements very difficult due to space restrictions. After about and hour of struggling, I found my "stubby" 3 inch phillips screwdriver and the process was much easier. The entire job took me about 2.5 hours. If I would've used my "stubby", it would have taken about 45 minutes. It's up and running; and I get my cherry pie.

The online information was excellent and well presented. The 'how to' video was also wonderful. I had a little problem with the bake element connection. I guess that was because it is an older model stove, it had screws instead of clips and a third wire came loose and fell in back. My brother was able to come over and figure it out so it all turned out just fine. We are now able to bake the turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. The broil element replacement went perfectly in just a few minutes. I thought I was being smart to replace both elements right away as I assumed they worked together. In retrospect, that probably was not needed. But that is not your fault. I got the parts the day after I ordered. I was very happy with this experience. 

Pulled the oven out, and unplugged the power cord. Took off the door, took out the racks, and undid the screws holding the element in place. Took out the old Broil Element and put in the new. I say moderately 'difficult' to repair below because I have spinal issues, hard to bend. Age 78.
