How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3192221 / WD26X10016 Drain Pump

I replaced the pump drain assembly. The flapper valve was included in the assembly, so I did not need to order that. On previous repairs, the old drain hose was tricky to reinstall, so I replaced it and the hose clamp.The silverware basket had holes in the bottom and required replacement. I had some broken tine clips. 

After checking for a clog and there was none I called Appliance Parts Pro. They told me there was a drain pump that may have gone bad. I ordered it and within two days as promised it was delivered. I installed the pump and now the dishwasher drains the way it should. I will use Appliance parts Pro for all my parts in the future. 

To start with I checked the discharge line and looked for obstructions in the tub but didn't find anything that should have stopped the drain so I decided that it must be a pump problem. having already pulled the machine out and disconnected the discharge line I realized there wasn't much to do to replace the pump. I did a Google search for the make and model of washer and Appliance Parts Pro came up and they seemed to be the most accurate and easy to use so I ordered the pump and within a couple of days it arrived. It took me a total of about 45 minutes to an hour to remove the washer take off the old pump and replace it with the new pump. I ran a test cycle and everything worked great. 

We started by first disassembling the inside of the dishwasher. When we did this we found some broken glass in the bottom. I went to the parts website and looked for my problem to get suggestions. We assumed that since we found the glass that some must have gotten into the drain pump. We ordered the part. We especially liked the fact that there was a video available to show you how to complete the repair. Everything went smoothly and the dishwasher is working fine. 

Using the service menu of our dishwasher I was able to determine that the drain pump was not operating and ordered a replacement. Once the dishwasher was out and laid on it's back installing the pump was quite easy requiring the removal of two screws and loosening of two clamps. The fix was successful and the dishwasher is working great again. 

I replaced the Drain Pump. Replacing the drain pump itself wasn't more than a 15-minute job. Most of the time on my project was extracting my dishwasher from underneath the counter. If I hadn't had this particular situation, I estimate the total project would have taken no more than an hour. With all the "How To" Videos offered by Appliance Parts Pros, I won't hesitate to attempt to fix any appliance going forward! The part only cost me $64.00. If I hadn't fixed it myself, I would have paid a minimum of $150 - $300 for a repairman OR I would have had to buy a new dishwasher for no less than $400, especially during the "Pandemic shortage" situation! Simple discontinued power and water lines to the unit. Pulled the dishes from the cabinet put the dish washer on its side. There were only 3 bolts to the not working water pump to remove it. Put the new one in then connected the water and electricity. It worked .... 

Partway through a normal cycle I heard a crunching/grinding noise as the dishwasher was trying to exhaust water at the end of a wash phase. The dishwasher continued to the end of the cycle but when it finished there was still a lot of water in the bottom. I suspected the drain pump had failed. I took off the front kick plate and found the drain pump. It was humming so it had power (thus the circuit board was OK) but there was no sound of moving water. Referring to the AppliancePartsPros.com video. I removed the lower wash arm, the fine screen, and the coarse screen. There was a huge amount of solidified greasy gunk in the sump under the coarse screen. I suspected a piece of the gunk had broken off and broken the drain pump impeller. The pump is a sealed unit, so I ordered a new one. It arrived in a couple of days. Meanwhile, I cleaned out all the gunk in the sump. The hardest part of the repair was disconnecting the dishwasher and removing it from under the counter. Once the dishwasher was out and tipped on its side, the AppliancePartsPros.com video explains clearly how to replace the pump. Very easy, just a couple of screws and a couple of hose clamps. Reinstalling the dishwasher under the counter was fussy but not difficult. It now runs perfectly! Just saved myself several hundred dollars. High marks for the AppliancePartsPros.com video!! Most helpful are all the videos on this website that allowed me to watch, learn, and have the courage to remove, clean, and reinstall the spray arms, the filter basket, and all accessible interior parts. I ran the dishwasher for a test run after cleaning; the loud noise was no longer present, and I observed that the dishwasher was no longer draining. Used a shop vac to remove the water; watched more repair videos; and ordered the Drain Pump and a Check Valve Flapper. The diagnostic review for "making loud noise and not draining" pointed to a failed drain pump. A friend helped with the drain pump removal and installation, as I was not comfortable disconnecting the electricity and the water supply hose. The drain pump assembly was replaced; we did not need a separate flapper valve, as that was already within the drain pump assembly. The dishwasher works beautifully once again! A decibel meter identified the noise level after repair of around 52 db in our trial run. No leaks; perfect draining! This is not the first time we have ordered parts from AppliancePartsPro.com, as we have repaired our refrigerator, washing machine, and clothes dryer. With older machines, I feel more at ease tackling the repairs and am especially comfortable with the repair videos and service offered by Appliance Parts Pros.
