This partition is designed to fold out, when you close the door, so that the gap between the right and left side door is sealed. In this case because of the partition being broken somehow, it would not fold out, and the left door would not close tight.
With the left door open wide, I folded out the partition and discovered that about halfway down from the top of the partition, there is a hinge assembly where a wire passes from the partition itself and into the left door. I later discovered that this wire was for a heating system inside the partition which kept it from freezing because the left door contained the ice maker unit. Anyway, this hinge assembly, which is plastic, had the plastic cracked all the way around it, and the hinges itself was loose. However the entire partition stayed in place somehow and just wouldn’t swing out or unfold when the door was being closed. Figuring out how this partition assembly was supposed to work, I found that at the top of the assembly, was a plastic nipple that as the door was just about to close tight, would make contact with a piece mounted on the refrigerator itself. This piece guided the partition assembly to unfold, which allowed the door to be closed tight with the partition in place.
But because of the broken hinge, the partition assembly had a slight sag to it and would not make contact with guide piece on the refrigerator. And therefore not close properly.
I decided to fix it myself by swapping out the partition assembly. I went on AppliancePartsPros.com and found my refrigerator based on the model number and not only did I find the partition assembly. They also had a video on how to replace the partition assembly. It could not have been any easier. Take off two screws, lift up on the assembly disconnects it at the top and bottom from the door, then gently pull on the wire where the hinge and the two screws are located. As you pull out the wire, you find a connection plug. Unplug it, and the entire unit is off.
You just reverse the removal process to install the new assembly. And the problem was fixed. AppliancesPartsPros saved me the money on labor costs for this repair.
Thanks Guys!!
