Mike K Niagara Falls , NY January 02, 2017 Appliance: LG Washer WM1814CW Smoking during final high speed spin sequence Like many other people, it turns out my spider was severely corroded and cracked so that it would cause the washing drum to flex a bit during the final spin and rub against the rubber boot in the front. Upon taking it apart I noticed that the inner bearing was showing some signs of rust. I ended up replacing the spider, inner bearing and tub/bearing seal as well as the outer tub seal. When I was in there I also replaced the drain pump as I noticed the seal had gone on that and water was making its way into the motor. Overall a pretty easy repair - the most difficult part was inserting the new bearing. it took about 30 minutes of carefully placed hits with the hammer (using old bearing in between) alternating between the 12, 6, 3 and 9 oclock positions to make the bearing seat squarely. Christopher D Bangor , ME December 28, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2016CW Der arm failure drum was out of balance the washer was banging and there was a burning smell I ordered a new Spider Arm, Door Gasket, tub seal, inner tub gasket plus the inner and outer bearings. I did the repairs myself and it took about 3 hours or so. The video was good but it left out some important steps. Which way does the inner tub seal go in? It goes in so that the raised lip with the very small spring around it is toward the bearing. There was also no video on installing the new door seal.? The biggest problem I had was that there were no new bolts supplied with the Spider Arm. These were very hard to remove and one of the heads started to strip. Why were these bolts not included or atleast a suggestion given to purchase them? This was my biggest aggravation. Read More... Gregory W Summerville , SC October 22, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM1814CW Bad vibration and clunking sound Replaced the spider arm assembly. I found the instructional videos extremely helpful. The parts arrived quickly. This is a very in-depth job so make sure you label and keep the parts and screws separated as you remove them. The only big problem I ran into was removing the old spider arm assembly. I ended up striping two of the bolts and had to drill them out. That was very time consuming. I also replaced the bearing while I had everything apart. Getting the inner bearing in place was a little difficult but with patients not impossible. Read More...
