How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4011179 / 12112425 Washer Pump And Drive Belt Kit

I have a stacked washer dryer unit in a tight space. I was able to raise the front of the unit about 6" with wood blocks. I was able to replace the two belts. I had to adjust the tension on the pump belt. The unit is back in service. The hardest part was getting access to the unit. Replacing the belts was easy. 

Much more work moving shelves and appliances to get to where had access to washer than actual fix. By that point already using garden tools to remove items that had been lost behind the appliances. Continue using them to lift front of washer high enough to put on floor jack, Then jack till braced securely between jack and wall behind it. At that point see that the belt was indeed off, and both belts were highly degraded with bits of black rubber scattered under the machine (that I initially feared were black mold.) Removed front panel. motor and springs mounts seemed sturdy so I'll keep the spring kit for the future. Replaced belts, reassembled, replaced feed hoses while I was at it and returned to original positions. Success, many stacked up loads of laundry to go through. (The "project" took well over 2 hours, but that was mostly furniture moving and cleaning.) Once access to the washer, probably 1-2 hours, alot due to my care/concern about potential for a washing machine to fall while I was reaching under it. 

New washers cost more, take EXPONENTIALLY longer, and STAY out of balance. I paid less than $175 for new tub seal kit, tub bearing kit, spanner wrench, and belt kit to freshen up my Maytag Dependable Care washer. Watched the videos on the repairs and I, and my 17 year old daughter, completed the repairs and cleaned the washer inside components. It goes easily, parts fit well, and videos are true...a chisel and emery cloth should be included because the inner tub nut is easily removed and the shaft bearing, too. The time spent cleaning the years of build-up and mold out of that area is time WELL spent. The tub seals and bearings went in place quickly and fit right. I’m proud that you guys offer these parts for us. We love our dependable, fast washers!! New washers are EXPENSIVE, SLOW, and WILL NOT BALANCE! I’ll keep this washer as long as you keep parts for us!! 

After bailing out what water I could and then using a wet/dry shop vac to get the rest of the water out, I first tried looking for a clog in the drain since we have an old plumbing system, but that did not fix it. Then I replaced the pump and drive belts. The belts arrived the day after I ordered them (standard shipping) and were fairly easy to install as the video showed. I had to move the pump to the farthest position to get the tension described in the video. That still did not fix my problem, however, so next I ordered a pump. Again, it arrived the next day. I broke a hose clamp in the process of installing it, but thankfully had another one on hand, and now my washer is working. 

I looked at the belts that drive the motor and the pump and saw that they were old and frayed. Had to order the set of belts. Shipping was quick even though I chose the 5-day shipping to save money. I installed the belts in less than 5 minutes. The washer works again without any squeaking. Very pleased with the whole experience. 

Replaced tub barring and installed mounting stem parts and new belts. Running good now.
