How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006209 / WP22001274 Washer Water Inlet Valve

The input valve leaked into the tub after the machine was shut down. Ordered replacement valve (who would have guessed you could find an input valve for a 14 year-old washing machine?!) and installed it. On this Maytag, the valve is accessible easily on the back side of the washer by removing a small panel where the 2 hoses connect. The hoses actually connect to the input valve. Once the panel and valve are loose, one more interior hose needs to be removed along with 2 electrical connectors (which provide the current to activate the solenoids that turn the water on/off). Then the replacement is installed. 

First, appliance parts pros had the part, on a 15-year-old Maytag! Then you had a video to instruct on how to install it. I mean, it was pretty easy. You also got it to me in 2 days which was critical - we’re selling the house and the inspection is today. I couldn’t believe you had the part. For $81 I fixed a machine that I would have to have replaced if I couldn’t fix it. Saved me $1400! I love you guys. Never look anywhere else. 

The old Maytag washer is 22 years old so I figured it was time for the inlet valve solenoids to give up the ghost. Sure enough the cold water solenoid on the water inlet valve was bad. Ordered a new OEM water inlet valve and installed it. While I had the washer out, I replaced the 22 year old original black rubber water hoses with new braided steel lined water hoses. I also cleaned the floor under the washer. Everything went smooth and the washer was back in service in under an hour. I used to work for an appliance store in my younger days so I am able to keep my appliances longer than most folks would. Much to my wife's chagrin, I might add.

Ordered water valve from AppliancePartsPros, expected delivery in a couple days, but due to pandemic it took about 10. Followed excellent video online, repair, aided by my wife, took 30 - 40 minutes. No issues, works great. 

I identified the problem, looked up the model number and did a web search for the part. Appliance parts pros website was the most helpful to identify the part number. There was also a link to a short video showing the tools needed and a complete replacement procedure. I ordered the part, it came during the timeframe expected and the part was easy to replace - the same exact procedure shown on the video. I now have a fully serviceable washing machine again. Purchased a new water valve. 

Replaced the Inlet Water Valve. I used the how to video on AppliancePartsPros for guidance. 

Replaced the valve. 

Replaced both the water valve and the lid switch assembly, but it was the fuse in the lid switch assembly that resolved the problem.
