The Gas Valve Cooktop is an OEM part for Bosch cooktops. This valve is responsible for controlling the flow of gas to the burners on the cooktop. It opens and closes to allow gas to pass through when a burner is turned on and stops the flow of gas when the burner is turned off.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear over time, issues with the valve mechanism such as stuck or blocked components, or damage from exposure to moisture or impact.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • Burners not lighting or sparking repeatedly without igniting
  • Uneven or unpredictable burner flame heights
  • Burners not getting hot enough for cooking
  • Burners that cannot be turned on or off
  • Gas leaks around the valve area

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore cooktop models.

Questions & Answers

For Bosch Gas Valve (Part Number: OEM8486526)

1 Answer

Ted, with the gas supply turned off and the gas valve accessed, the knob would need to be rotated and the valve tested for 10 to 13 VDC. If the valve is intermittently getting DC voltage when the knob is turned off and on multiple times, the most likely cause of failure would be the simmer controller 00422882. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Ted, With the unit not having gas flow but still sparking then this will most likely be a faulty gas valve.

Ted, with the gas supply turned off, the left cooktop pan can be removed after taking the burner heads off. This will allow the gas orifice to be checked for a clog, If it is clear, the solenoid will need to be tested for DC voltage when the switch is turned to the ignite position. If there is voltage, the gas valve 00411253 would be the cause of failure.

Hello Bryan, the control unit will periodically cut off the gas flow by way of the gas solenoid valves to the extra low burners when set to extra low setting to maintain the lowest heat on the burner.

David for Model Number SGCS456RS

I have a 6-burner Thermador Gas Cooktop Model #SGCS456RS and the two middle burners have issues. We bought this house in 2018. Cooktop installed about 2002. From time to time, the cook top made "clicking" noises which we were able to stop by unplugging the unit from the electricity. The lower burner never worked. And just last week, I had an independent, older tech guy look at it. We removed the cooktop, he inspected and cleaned it up and it doesn't seem to be delivering gas. Today, the upper burner in the middle section started clicking and some soft “clunking." I turned that burner on and it would light for a second or two, then go out, light for a second or two, then go out, light for a second or two, then go out... It is now unplugged. Called the tech who looked at the unit just last week. Could be a valve issue, a solenoid issue? Any suggestions? And are parts still available for this unit?

David, based on the information provided, it sounds like there is an issue with the simmer controller 00497234. Unfortunately, the simmer controller kit has been discontinued and is no longer available.

Lori, depending on which burner is not getting gas, this could be a valve issue, a solenoid issue, or a simmer controller issue. The valve for the simmer-controlled burners would be part number 00415499, the non-controlled burners would use the valve 00415501. Depending on the serial number, the simmer controller and potentiometer kit would be used if the controller does not send DC voltage to the solenoid to allow gas to flow through.
