Quincy May 22, 2013 for Model Number 79092202012 Replaced control panel ,which was burnt ,the plug that has the bake to element is stuck. I found that I have a bad connection inside the plug as my oven wont heat up. I cannot see any snap or plug release. How do I get plug off without damage to the new panel. Control panel # is 316557118
1 Answer Quincy, The wire for the bake should be a single wire with a spade connector. If you are having trouble getting this off you can use the edge of a flat blade screw driver and gently pry it off. If it is one of the white connectors there would be a clip on the side that you push to release. Read More...
Kelly May 20, 2013 for Model Number 79094223403 Hello, my oven has stopped heating up, burners on top still work fine. Took out elements, top and bottom, and probe ,had them tested everything fine w/ them. I read that it could be my oven control board, is this something I could do my self?
1 Answer Kelly, Yes, you can replace the oven control board. You will want to do a voltage check on the control board to make sure that it is bad. If you put the oven in bake and test for 240 vac from L1 to Bake, if there is 240 vac then the control is bad and if there is not then there is another issue such as a possible bad thermal fuse or thermal switch. Leonard W. May 01, 2013 for Model Number jbp48wa2ww My oven only heats to about 230 and I cant run it any higher. Do I need a sensor or control board?
1 Answer Hello Leonard W.. You will need to check the elements and make sure they are good in the unit. It sounds like one is bad. If both are good, replace the control board. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Bill April 08, 2013 for Model Number 790.92309012 We started to smell an electrical buring smell when our Kenmore oven was in use. Shortly there after the lower bake element failed to get very hot nothing over 150 degrees. I checked the continunity and it seemed ok with 16 ohms. While double checking the oven controls I saw a flame reflection indicating that there was a fire occuring inside the back housing. I pulled out the stove and unplugged it. Removing the back cover I discoved yes indeed there had been a fire. Needless to say the electronic control is ruined. I feel this controlled is defective. What has been your experience?
1 Answer Hello Bill. It is not a defect. Sometimes, the relays can stick and short causing the issue you had. You will need to order and replace the control on the unit. Read More...

1 Answer Noel, Are you sure there is 220-240 VAC at the wall outlet ? Do the cooktop burners operate ? If there's voltage or the top burners work, then yes your next check would most likely be an issue in the control 316557118 Read More...
Laura March 03, 2013 for Model Number Model #79096012401 Kenmore Electric range Last week we heard a pop and then the circuit breaker tripped to our oven. When we went to put it back on, we were only able to use the stovetop and the oven is no longer heating up. Neither of the coils are heating in our oven...we are looking to find out if it is the oven control that needs to be replaced or could it be something else? Also, we are no longer seeing any clock display nor have the ability to push the button to turn the oven on. That did work at first but isnt anymore. I appreciate the help! Thanks!
1 Answer Laura, You will want to do a voltage check for 120vac to the control board. Check from L1 to N. If you have 120 vac to Neutral then the control board 316557118 is faulty and will need to be replaced. Read More...
Jeff R March 03, 2013 for Model Number sears (frigidaire) 790 Had a short that popped the circuit breaker. Traced that down to the oven light receptacle - receptacle burnt looking. Disconnected & removed light receptacle. Powered up. No fault codes at EOC. Top elements work. Call for bake or broil - doesn't work. Have 120V at L1 & L2.
1 Answer Jeff, You will want to test from broil to L1 and from bake to L1 with unit set to that cycle and if you do not have 240 vac then the control board is faulty and would need to be replaced. Read More...
Bob February 07, 2013 for Model Number 790-96011400 While using oven, a loud pop noise and everything shut off. Checked electric panel in house & had to reset the circuit. Now only the clock come on. The stove won't turn on and any of the stove top burners when turned on get red for 2 seconds and then shut off. Took back panel off and checked all wires & connections for any burnt or loose wires and connections. The range is only 8 years old. Any ideas on what is wrong? Thank you for all your help.
1 Answer Hello Bob, You will want to test at the terminal block to make sure that you are getting 120 vac across each leg of the terminal block to ground and across the 2 hot legs for 240 vac to make sure that you are not loosing power supply. Check these with the unit turned on to determine if you are loosing 1 side under a load. If so you will want to check home wiring. Read More...
Mike December 15, 2012 for Model Number Kenmore 7909421340e My electric range tripped the 50 amp breaker along with the breaker panel main. Reset main and left 50 amp breaker off. I checked all the elements and all ohm o.k. I think I have a problem with the control board. Using my tester on ohms I read continuity between L1 in and L2 out. Would this indicate a dead short? I get this reading with all wiring disconnected from the control board - #316418208
1 Answer Hello Mike, Yes the control board would need to be replaced. You may also want to look at all the wiring in the oven and home wiring for shorts. Breaker box and wiring to breaker box. Check power supply. There may be another cause other than the control that caused issue and if you put new control in without checking all wiring in circuit you may have the same problem.
