The Cold Control is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It regulates the temperature inside the fridge and freezer compartments by controlling the compressor, evaporator fan, and cooling vents. Proper cooling depends on the cold control operating reliably.

Symptoms of a bad cold control include:

  • Fluctuating temperatures that don't stay consistent
  • The refrigerator or freezer running excessively hot or cold
  • The compressor not turning on at all

Causes of failure can be worn over many years of use or damage to electronic components. Without an accurately functioning control, cooling performance diminishes significantly.

This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

Mike, You will want to check to see if the compressor is running. If not then the likelihood will be that the start relay on the compressor has failed and would need a new start relay. If the compressor is running then the issue will most likely be a sealed system issue and would have to have a service technician. The start relay part number is 5304433579 and you will want to replace the overload as well which is part number 216954208.

Mike, You will want to pull the rear cover off inside the freezer compartment and check the evaporator coils for being impacted with ice. If they are impacted with ice then there is a defrost issue and you will need to check for continuity on the defrost thermostat and defrost timer. If these check good for continuity then the defrost timer would be the issue. If there is no continuity on the heater or the thermostat then replace the part that does not show continuity.

Joe for Model Number MRT15CSEWN

My compressor would not kick on. I decided it was the start capacitor. The capacitor was replaced, but did not help. Last night when checking the fridge I gave the Cold Control knob a light rap with with my knuckles. The compressor immediately kicked on and the fridge ran till it got cold, shut off and would not start by itself. Again I rapped the Cold Control knob and it started and ran another cycle. Now I'm pretty sure it is the Cold Control, but want to double check before I buy one. Am I right or is it something else?HJ

Hello T.B., I'm sorry but part 241537103 specifications are not provided by the manufacturer. The model number would enable us to pull the specific information as per the model number. One tech sheet pulled as generic information gives the refrigerator temperature as 35° to 40°F. This is as close as they come to listing the information you requested. The manufacturer would have to be contacted for the specific information you need.

Hello Gary. You need to check and make sure there is no defrost issue. If not, then the cold control or the damper for the fresh food is the issue with the unit. Also, make sure the evaporator fan is running also.
