Mr Frozen Milk for Model Number FRS26H7CSB2

Hi, my (2003) Frigidaire Electrolox is freezing everything on the fresh food side of the fridge. I tried turning temp controls lower but seems as if the damper is staying open. When I turn the control to 0 the damper does close. Would I just replace the damper assembly, defrost thermostat or is the entire kit needed? Reason I ask is because funds are scarce and the less I pay and fixing it on my own can really be a great help to my family right about now. Thanks in advance for your help

Mr. Frozen milk, The damper not closing when the temp is too cold but does close at zero would indicate that the thermostat 241537104 is most likely faulty and would need to be replaced.

Anthony, The control board for this unit is 5303918476 and could be stuck in the defrost cycle. Since the unit is not doing anything other than interior lights then this would be the most likely problem.

Ron, Your issue could be that the damper door is not closing or that the refrigerator thermostat is faulty. You will want to cycle unit off to see if the damper door is closing. If not then the door is bad. If it does then the thermostat would be at fault. If it does not then the damper is faulty and you will need to install the control box kit 5304482075.

Hello Laveine. Check for frost inside the freezer on the back wall. If there is some there, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Dan D for Model Number FRS26HF6BW2

Hi, My damper is either stuck wide open (refridge freezes to 21 degs F) or stuck closed (refridge stays around 49 degs F). Right now I am trying to pull out the entire themostat and damper control module to see how hard or easy this job is. It is not easy because there are probes going from module into the freezer section that I can not get out. Also, I am having trouble getting the housing around the water filter on the top right side loose so I can replace the thermostats. It is some how attached to the top even though I have removed ALL screws. Any instructions that you have on replaceing this module (5304482075) would be very helpful.

1 Answer

Hello Dan, To remove the control assembly of unit there are 2 screws in the left side assembly, all screws 1/4" hex head. There is 3 screws across the holding the front part of control panel in. There is a screw holding in the cover that covers the tubing that goes to the water filter. Once the tubing cover is removed and the 2 screws holding the filter head in place are removed you will then have 1 screw left on the back side of where the filter head would be in between the two tubes that go to the filter head. Once all the screws are removed you should be able to pull entire assembly out. The thermostat that goes to the freezer side is fed through a guide and would just be pulled out and reinserted when putting back in place.

Hello James, The control box 5304482075 comes as a kit due to the freezing issue is caused by damper and refrigerator temperature control. The only part of this assembly that comes as an individual part is the freezer temperature control and would not have anything to do with the freezing in the refrigerator compartment.

Paul for Model Number PLRS267ZAB6

Twice in the past two months, we discovered a warm freezer and warm refrigerator. The first time, I pulled the plug to look at a few components and when I plugged it back it, the freezer and refrigerator sections both cooled down and seemed to operate normally. Over the next 2 months, the freezer started running at minus 5 to minus 20 degrees no matter how we adjusted the temperature control. Today we had our second warm freezer/fridge. We could hear what we believe is the compressor cycling on for about 10 seconds, every couple of minutes. I replaced the defroster thermostat but there was no build up of ice or frost on the defroster, and the cycling of the compressor still continues, with no cooling in either the freezer of fridge. Is the next logical component the control box? Thank you for your help!

1 Answer

Hello Paul, Based on the information provided, you would either have a burnt relay or a failed compressor. If you pull the start relay off the compressor and look at it you may find a burn mark on the relay 5304491941. This burn mark will be on the side where the pins connect to the compressor. If the relay looks ok then you want to do an amp draw on the compressor. If you are getting more than 8 amps of draw then you have a failed compressor 5304475102.

Hello Keith, If the thermostat is in the off position but there is still cold air coming into the refrigerator through the damper then the damper is faulty and you would need to replace control box kit 5304482075. Make sure you follow the instructions that come with kit.

Hello Richard, If the service technician left the instructions to the kit then you may want to read over them and just double check all the steps visually to ensure it is connected properly. It sounds like maybe the freezer thermostat may be installed wrong.
