You should replace the control module if it fails or malfunctions. Causes of a bad control module can include electrical surges, wear and tear over time, or exposure to moisture. Faulty wiring or damaged components within the module can also lead to failure.

Symptoms of a bad control module include:

  • Inconsistent or incorrect temperatures in the refrigerator or freezer
  • Refrigerator not cooling properly

  • Error codes displayed on the control panel

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

1 Answer

Jason, The thermistor for this unit would be what to check first. You will want to test the resistance which should be 5K ohms at 77 degrees. If the thermistor checks ok then the issue will be a faulty control board.

When opening the door the power and light would flicker until the control panel has completely messed up. Replaced the control panel, then started it up. Panel looks like it is working now, and freezer will run but temperature on the control board does not decrease and get the e8 - thermistor short error code. Replaced thermistor and checked wiring harnesses and wiring, nothing appears out of the ordinary. Any ideas what is causing the e8 short, how to diagnosis the problem?

1 Answer

Jason, Recheck the wiring harness at the bottom of the door hinge to make sure there aren't any frayed or damaged wires. Remove the control board, disconnect the wire harness and check across pin 1 and pin 2 in the harness connector. You should have a resistance reading of 10k ohms resistance at room temperature(77dgrs.F., and 32k ohms resistance at freezing(32 dgrs.F.) If you have the correct readings, replace the control again.

Joseph, You will want to try to push the up key on the control panel until it reaches 4. If it will not move then the control board would be the part needed to repair the unit.

Hello Robert, You will need to unplug the unnt and replace the control 297235200 by slipping a putty knife, (with electrical tape on the edge to prevent scratches), under the bottom edge of the control. This control will unplug when pulled out so you do not have to worry about damage.

Hey. Follow up to my earlier question (thanks by the way for your response). I purchased and installed the control panel on my freezer (part 297370600). Light and fan kick on and it appeared at first that this fixed the problem. 12 hours later, there's no cold air coming through. Fan is blowing and the control panel is set to '4' and is indicating a warm temp warning (so it's working in that respect). Any ideas on why still no cold air coming through? Thanks in advance for your time....

1 Answer

Doug, You will want to check the compressor to make sure that the compressor is running. If the compressor is running but not cooling then check to see if there is a even frost pattern on the evaporator coils. If there is no frost pattern at all then this will likely be a sealed system issue and would need a servicer to repair.
