This valve controls gas flow to a range/cooktop surface burner for smooth ignition and precise flame adjustment. Replacing a worn valve helps restore reliable burner lighting, accurate heat control, and safer shutoff.

  • Regulates gas to a surface burner for ignition and flame size control
  • Sticking or worn internal seals can cause hard-to-turn operation or gas odor
  • Failure may prevent the burner from lighting or shutting off completely
  • Inconsistent or unresponsive flame adjustment can indicate a failing valve
What's included: 1 valve Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off the gas supply before servicing
  • Allow the appliance to cool; access the valve/manifold per your model's instructions
  • Mark and disconnect tubing and any wires; transfer fittings or a separate spark switch from the old valve if applicable
  • After installation, restore gas and check all joints with an approved leak-detection solution; verify proper burner operation

Michael, it would be recommended that the bake igniter 5304506545 or broil igniter 316489403 be tested for 120VAC when the corresponding cooking cycle is set. If there is not voltage, the oven sensor 316490000 would need to be tested for resistance and it should measure around 1100 Ohms if it is good. If it is, the failure would most likely be the main control 316557211.

Jay, the safety valve would be part number 316404901. If the ignitor is not glowing when this noise is occurring, the safety valve is not closing properly. However, if there is a flame at the time of the noise and the ignitor is glowing, the air shutter may need to be adjusted and the burner tube cleaned to ensure gas can burn properly.

Hello Tim, You should first have the gas pressure checked by the gas supplier. They will normally do this at no charge depending on your local utility board. If the gas pressure to the appliance is good, you will most likely have to replace the regulator 5304521339.

Lynn, Based on the information provided the safety valve would not have anything to flip (that is only if you were replacing the regulator) the valve does need to be adjusted to LP by using a 1/2 inch wrench and turning the orifice clockwise 1.5 to 2 turns.

Lisa, It would be recommended to check to make sure that the oven sensor is good. The oven sensor can work at lower settings and then break down at higher temps. The resistance at 77 degrees should be 1080 and at 350 should be about 1654. If the resistances are good then it could be a faulty control board.

Freddy, You will want to check to make sure that there is airflow around the oven but this is most likely going to be a faulty oven safety valve [AP316404901].

Craig for Model Number FGFL87GSA

The oven quit working. Neither the oven burner nor the broiler burner will light. The control panel shows them lighting, but they don't. All the top burners work fine. It looks like both broiler and oven burners have only one thing in common that is not common to the stove top burners, shown on the schematics as the 'valve'. Does this makes sense? It is pricey on its own. I have perhaps average handy-man skills; can I replace this part on my own? Adding the price of a service call to the price of the part is about 1/2 the cost of a new stove! It wouldn't have the convection-assist feature, but I never use it anyway.

Hello Shektek, The ignitor should glow all the time the flame is lit. It should also be glowing yellow to white hot. If not, the ignitor 5304534663 will be the issue.
