Questions & Answers

For Ge Board Asm Main Control (Part Number: OEM21564309)

Hello Dale, first check the freezer door wire harness is intact at the hinge leading back to the cabinet, if it is then the main control board would likely have failed. Since the lights are working that confirms there is 120v going to the main board WR55X10942C.

Don for Model Number PSS26SGRBSS

OK, as I'm digging into the diagnostics. The interior lights are on, though not the panel at the top that might show freezer/refrigerator temperatures. That top panel is totally dark. Electricity IS getting to the main control board, as I was able to measure 110 across L1 and both the other two terminals. (I had tried, as I'd read in a different post, to jump the compressor from L1 -- this was a mistake, as L1 to orange, at least, on the compressor made some fireworks and kicked out the circuit breaker--twice. Probably not the best move, as I really didn't know what I was doing in there.) Anyway, the board is getting juice, and I was able to measure continuity across the fuse, just out of curiosity. Opinions please? Or other tests to do? I am beginning to focus on the reality that it may be the main control board. Thanks much.

Don, It sounds likely your main board is out if you jumped from the L1 to orange and there were sparks. You can test the J4 connector from pin 1 black to pin 2 red for 12 vdc and if there is proper power then the display board is faulty. if there is not power then the main board will be the issue.

Don for Model Number PSS26SGRBSS

Hello. I am helping a friend (i.e., limited access to me, as it's in a rental unit) repair GE refrigerator PSS26SGRBSS. It's said that it simply "stopped working" and so all I know is that it's not cooling. Can you walk me through the steps of diagnosis, please, to begin to troubleshoot this problem, and see if a repair is viable? As I begin to read through, it seems that the trouble may be in the lesser expensive relays or fans, or might be in the more expensive circuit board or compressor. I expect I'll have to go back and forth with you a couple of times on this as I begin to diagnose, but if you can put me on the path to get started, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Don, the first step would be to identify what is operating and what is not. If the fans are operating, as well as the compressor, the evaporator would need to be inspected to identify if there is a frost pattern. If absolutely nothing is operating, the power supply to the main control would need to be tested for 120VAC to identify if the main control is receiving voltage.

Ricardo Martinez for Model Number GE GSH25JSTCSS

I have replaced the control board with GE WR55X10942 control board due to defrost problems ( replaced defrost heater, all temperature sensors as well) before the board change the ice maker never worked. What happens is when the freezer door is open the auger motor is off, when door is closed the auger motor is running, don't matter if the ice maker power switch is turned on or off. Do the auger motor only run is when the ice dispenser funnel is activated? Why is it running when not activated, ice maker section do not move when it has been reset (moving the arm three times). New board replacement fixed the defrost issues. I unplugged the connector that plugs into the back wall to stop the motor from running. What is causing the auger motor to run when the freezer door is closed???

Ricardo, Make sure that when you installed the board that you connected each wire up to the location that has the same number of pins. It sounds like something is not connected correctly.

Chito, Based on the information provided I would recommend plugging it in for about 45min and re-check it to make sure it is not in a defrost cycle. If it is not running after about 45 minutes then it is likely to be a control issue.

Thomas B for Model Number gshs5pgxaess

I have a GE model gshs5pgxaess, it seems to get stuck in defrost mode. It's my understanding that defrost should run between 25-45 minutes. My goes into defrost and won't come out until I unplug the unit then plug it back in. The temps rise on both sides, 15 for the freezer and 48 for the refrigerator, even though they are set at 7 and 34. So I'm assuming there's an issue with the timer. Will this board fix this problem since the defrost timer is built into the board? Thanks

Wes, if the lights have failed on the dispenser control WR55X23215, it would be recommended that the display control is tested for 13VDC from the red wire (red meter probe) to the black wire (black meter probe). If there is 13VDC, the dispenser control has failed and would need to be replaced.

Mike, Based on the information provided I would recommend checking the Evaporator frost pattern...If it is completely frozen up then this would indicate a defrost issue which would likely be a defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or control. If the evaporator has no frost pattern or a partial frost pattern then you could have a sealed system issue in which case you would need a certified technician to do the sealed system repairs.
