For Ge Flat Style Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM7904166)

Bruce, fast failure of an ignitor could be caused by oil being on the carbide from installation, if the part was dropped enough to have a slight crack in the carbide, improper voltage being supplied, incorrect part being used, etc. If the model number of your appliance could be provided in a new question, this can allow the most accurate information to be presented.

Ken, the ignitor [PB040001] is only a flat ignitor. You will want to use the ignitor specified for your model due to possible resistance differences between the correct ignitor and other ignitors. If the resistance does not cause enough amps to be drawn, then the unit will not let the coils engage because the heating system operates based off of the amp draw of the ignitor.
