Autumn July 24, 2011 for Model Number AP3884317 & AP3183311 I have a Whirlpool side by side, Model#GSL25JFPABS, I found out from a friend that after my coils in the freezer were freezing that I would need a defrost heater or a defrost thermostat. I replaced both and the fridge worked wonderfully for a week. Now it's not very cold in the fridge or freezer and slowly everything seems to be defosting in the freezer and the ice maker is now no longer making ice. I just purchased these two parts from here not too long ago and am not sure what else I need to replace to fix this problem. I have the dials turned all the way to 10. Please help, I would rather not spend $125 for an appliance man if it is something simple I am missing. Thanks.
1 Answer Hi Autumn. Please remove the back cover to see if the condenser coils are dirty. Then you will need to clean these coils with either compressed air or by a condenser coil cleaning brush that you can conform to get inside the coils and also use a shop vac to periodically clean off the brush (over and over). Dirty coils will boil the freonin the system and cause a "no-cool". Is your condenser fan working if not , this part # is WR60X10209. It will boil the freon also. Is there a "Ice-Ball" formed in the evaporator coils not allowing the freon to flow properly? There is also a temperature sensor inside the freezer that "senses" proper temperatures in the freezer. This part # is WR55X10025. It Is a relatively cheap part. Is The compressor running? Let us know if we can assist you further. Thank you. Read More...
Rg July 17, 2011 for Model Number GSH25IGRBCC Noticed the bottom was frozen, the top was warm on both sides. The coils were 3/4 frozen only the top 2 were not. I changed the defrost heater with GE part # WR51X10101. The one they gave me was shorter, I called them they said it was the right one. Installed it and still having problems. Only 3/4 of the coils freeze up, the top is warm. Any Ideas?
1 Answer Hello RG! The 9" heater is Wr51x10101, our part number WR51X10101. However, your unit seems to take a 12" heater element assembly part number WR51X10055. You will need to test the defrost thermostat WR50X10068 and the main board WR55X10942C. You can test these parts using a multimeter MA-DM1. Here is a link from our free repair forum you can refer to for help with using a multi meter. Hope this helps, thanks! http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Hughes June 28, 2011 for Model Number 363.59575994 Model 363.59575994. Everything appears to be working, fans, compressor etc. There is frost in the freezer and neither the fridge or freezer are cold. We were told we would need to replace the defrost heater tubes. Does this seem logical?
1 Answer Hello Hughes. You will need to test the heater assembly WR51X10029 and see if it is bad. It should read closed for continuity when cold. Also, you can test the defrost thermostat the same way. It should read closed for continuity when cold. If either one is open, you will need to replace it. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Dominic May 25, 2011 for Model Number gss25kgpacc Ok I have tested the defrost thermostat for continuity and when it is warm and cold I get continuity. I read elsewhere that I shouldn't get continuity when it is warm. Does this mean that this could be the problem?
1 Answer Hello Dominic. If the defrost thermostat does not open when warm, you will need to replace the defrost thermostat WR50X10068. If the heater test good, and is not coming on, you will need to replace the main board WR55X10942C. Hope this helps. Read More...
Dominic May 24, 2011 for Model Number GSS25KGPACC Hello I have a GE refrigerator model # GSS25KGPACC , and for the second month in a row I have a frozen freezer coil. I took off the defrost heater and checked it for continuity and it has it. Then just to be certain I ran it under hot water and it still has continuity. Also the heater element is dark green and black. This is probably my problem. My wife reminded me that about 2 years ago We experienced this problem and The service guy replaced the heater, I can't find the receipt but it probably was the same defective one I have now. My question is why would it bust after only 2 years? Is this normal?
1 Answer Hello Dominic. If the heater is showing continuity, then it is good. It sounds like the mother board may be the problem, if the heater and the thermostat showed continuity. You will need to replace the mother board WR55X10942C. Hope this helps. Read More...

1 Answer Hello Zhijun. You can test the heater WR51X10055 and the thermostat WR50X10068. The should read closed for continuity when cold. If they are good, you will need to replace the main board assembly WR55X10942C. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Jim April 12, 2011 for Model Number GSS 201ETA WW 2 Questions... First, I had been having issues with the refrigerator not cooling and the freezer cooling just fine. After pulling the rear panel, I found the evaporator coils totally covered in ice. I am assuming that the heater is faulty. Is this a correct assumption? Secondly, I have had a non functioning ice maker since last summer when we were without power after severe storms whereas I had the unit connected to my 6500 watt generator and it (generator) had a surge and the maker is no longer working. I have looked at the mother board and notice one of the round electronic gadgets has the end blown out of it. I am assuming that I also need a mother board ??
1 Answer Hello Jim. You can test the heater to see if it is bad. It should be closed for continuity. If the board is blowed out, then you will need to replace the board. Hope this helps. Read More...
