The Ice Bucket Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is designed to store ice produced by the icemaker, providing an accessible and organized storage solution within the freezer compartment. This assembly, with a dimension of roughly 15 inches wide, 11 inches high, and 23 inches deep, is made to hold ice produced by the ice maker.

You should replace the ice bucket assembly if it becomes cracked, broken, or no longer fits properly in its designated spot. Common causes of a bad ice bucket assembly include physical damage from mishandling, wear and tear from regular use, or exposure to extreme temperatures that cause the plastic to become brittle.

Symptoms of a bad ice bucket assembly include:

  • Cracks or visible damage to the bucket
  • Ice not dispensing properly
  • The bucket not fitting securely in place
  • Unusual noises from the ice compartment

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Ice Bucket Assembly (Part Number: OEM9614370)

Steve-O for Model Number PSS26SGRBSS

For some time, my GE Profile Artica (~2004 model) has not been crushing ice well so we switched to just cubed ice. More recently, the ice dispenser jams so that I have to pull the tray out and spin the auger by hand to unjam the ice. Now this is happening more frequently. The auger motor seems to work. The clear plastic plug like piece near the rear of the tray seems to have broken so that ice falls out the back. Given that the jamming is the main problem, as well as the ice crusher not working, what would you recommend replacing to restore to full functionality? Thanks.

Steve, If the ice is jamming in the chute or just inside the ice bin, you will want to check the ice door to make sure that it is sealing properly. If the door is not sealing properly then you will want to check the dispenser solenoid is not rusted. If it is then it will need to be replaced. If the auger is broken then you would want to replace the auger.

Hello Scott! Unfortunately, we are not affiliated with GE and do not have their process information available. We would suggest contacting the manufacturer regarding the issue. We do apologize we are not capable of answering your question. Thank you for your inquiry.

Chris C. for Model Number GE Side by side: GSS25TSW

I replaced part 355 (the drive cup) a few weeks ago after noticing the small plastic piece had broken off (dispenser was jamming). With the new piece the dispenser would still labor and "skip" (causing wear on the new dispenser cup ) when trying to crush ice so we stopped crushing ice (this was within first 2 days). Now the dispenser got jammed again and although the dispenser cup is still okay (although showing more wear) the "ear" on part 359 has broken off where it attaches to part 361. Any thoughts on the best solution? I know I need a new part 359 now but should I also replace the entire dispenser assembly?

1 Answer

Hello Chris, The thing that causes this to ocurr is most often the small bits of ice that accumulate in the bottom of the crusher bin from normal operation. The small bits tend to freeze together and put the entire unit under excessive load. This opposes rotation of the auger and takes its' toll on the plastic parts of the dispense assembly. Another thing that contributes to the wear is the crusher bin not being completely installed into the locked position. This will even cause the freezer door to try to open during ice dispense since the auger yoke tries to jump out of the cup during the augers' rotation.

Hello Mike. It sounds like the auger is jamming up in the bucket. If it is worn really bad, you will need to replace the bucket assembly WR17X11447.

Kent, You'll need to check a few things, First make sure the actuator arm WR17X11456 and spring on the side of the bin is properly secured to the side of the bin. Check the helix blade WR17X11458 and helix drum WR17X11457 are secured to each other and the auger shaft. Then flip the bin over and observe the deflector door WR17X10703 it should open and close easily, when you manipulate the actuator arm up and down.

I'm buying a new GE refrigerator and found that the model that I'm interested in has a plastic auger in the ice dispenser. My research on it found that the plastic auger breaks easily. Will the WR17X11447 Ice Dispenser Assembly with a metal auger fit the side by side refrigerator - model number GSHS6LGBSS? The model is sometimes identified as model number GSHS6LGBBHSS. If not, is there another ice dispenser assembly with a metal auger that will fit it?

Frank for Model Number Refrigerator GE PTI22MFMARBB -Serial #ZA904997V. Refrig purchased August 2002.

The auger in the bucket assembly appears to be rusted. Cleaning the "rust" on the auger seems to clear up the deposit somewhat. Is this "rust" or a different deposit problem? If I need to replace a part(s) should I replace the entire Ice Bucket and Auger Assembly or just the Auger? Can the Auger by itself be replaced? Ice making is not compromised by this problem. Thank you for your assistance.

Frank, This would be rust on the auger and the auger WR17X10529 can be replaced as an individual part. To replace the auger, you would pull the bin out and take the front cover off. To take the front cover off you will remove 2 screws at the bottom of the bin. There may also be 2 screws on the inside of the bin to remove. Once removed you will need to take out the screws holding the metal bracket in place. Remove the screws that hold the crusher housing and take the clip off the front of the housing. Lift the housing off. You will then unscrew the nut and pay close attention to how the the blades are in place. These will need to be put back exactly how they are on. Once off you can put onto the new auger and reinstall. There is also the bucket assembly WR17X10424 if you would prefer to get instead of tearing down the old bin.
