Jose May 07, 2022 for Model Number ZISB48DYB There are two thermostats attached to the back of the evaporator coils but the parts diagram only references one. The upper one has a blue wire that goes to the fan and a red wire that exits the freezer compartment but I can't tell where it goes, so can't test it for continuity. The lower thermostat has an orange wire that goes to the deicing tray/pan and a pink wire that lead to the icemaker fill tube heater. It shows continuity with a multimeter. What do each of these thermostats do? Where does the red wire go? Are both thermostats the same? When the defrost timer is advanced manually (appears to work fine) the defrost heater works and the deicing pan heats. Why might ice form on fan and build up thick next to evaporator coils? Thanks
1 Answer Jose, the orange and pink wired thermostat would be the defrost heater and fill tube thermostat WR50X45 and is utilized to prevent overheating. The red wire on the other thermostat would go to the defrost timer and it is used to prevent the fan from turning on unless the evaporator is cold enough and it would be the same as the heater thermostat. A thick build-up of ice on the evaporator coil is commonly caused by a defrost failure, either from the heater WR51X322, thermostat, or defrost timer WR9X502 failing. If it builds up enough, the ice will also accumulate on the fan. Read More...
Brian February 03, 2022 for Model Number ZISW42DYA Evaporator is icing up, three days after manual defrost. Have to manually defrost because not defrosting. Thus refrigerator temperature begins to rise. Defrost heater and thermostat changed. I think the culprit is evaporator drain pan heater. How hot should the heating elements in this heater get. It is only getting warm to touch during defrost cycle. The unit is disassembled, which is why I can touch it.
1 Answer Brian, If it is warm to the youch then it is likely good and the issue is going to be something else. If the defrost heater and thermostat are good then the next defrost issue to check would be the defrost timer. The timer for your model would be WR9X483 Read More...
Boris September 27, 2021 for Model Number ZSGS420DMASS I bought the WR49X10021 Refrigerator Icing Repair Kit as I was having problems with defrosting every few months on my Monogram refrigerator. After installation, as soon as the defrost cycle starts, our differential circuit breaker jumps and turns off electricity. Heated tray is properly grounded. Does this mean the part is faulty? I tested by re-installing the old part and it works.
1 Answer Boris, Either something did not make a good connection for the heater or the part that you received is defective. Read More...
Gil January 11, 2021 for Model Number ZISS480DMCS Water keeps leaking from the top of my freezer which I suspect is due to the drain tube being frozen. I replaced the freezer icing kit WR49X10021 a couple of months ago but the problem came back. Is there another part I should be checking? Thank you, Gil
1 Answer Gil, it would be recommended that the defrost drain under the evaporator is inspected to identify if it has frozen up. If it has, the failure would likely be in the drain tube WR02X11450 at the drain pan is pinched or clogged and this would need to be cleared. Read More...
Scott July 19, 2020 for Model Number ZISS42DAASS My freezer keeps building up ice above the evaporator fan. Checked the de-icing coil and its 350 ohms. What is the normal Ohms for this de-icing coil? Most info that I find says the normal defrost coil is to be 100 Ohms or below. Not sure about the de-icing coil.
1 Answer Scott, the drain trough heater should measure 330O while the defrost heater WR51X322 should measure about 30O. For ice to accumulate above the fan, either there is a partial defrost from a weak defrost heater, failing bi-metal WR50X45, or an improper drain as moisture would have to be drawn up past the fan to get above it. Frank G September 12, 2016 for Model Number ZISB48DYB My refrigerator is leaking water from the top where the evaporator is at so I took it apart and found some ice build up but evaporator not iced up. I feel like the ref is not draining properly.
1 Answer Hello Frank. It sounds like the drain is clogged and will need to be cleaned out. You remove the drain line from the bottom of the pan and use hot water and a turkey baster to blow it out and clear any blockage in it. Read More...
Joe May 01, 2016 for Model Number GE ZISB36DYB Ice tray OVER-melting during defrost and water then pools in dispenser tray and block of ice reforms preventing ice dispenser from rotating. Cleaned condenser, but still happens. Suspect there is a cut-off thermister not working that would end the defrost cycle, but do not see one in the parts list. Part of the timer, maybe?
1 Answer Joe, This unit has a defrost timer on it which would be the most likely cause for the unit to stay in defrost for too long. The defrost timer part number is WR9X502. Read More...
D. October 13, 2015 for Model Number ZISW420DMA You keep mentioning to " testing the defrost heater for continuity" before doing the De Icing repair kit. How does one test the defrost heater for continuity?
1 Answer Hello D. You use a multi meter. It should read closed for continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Diane July 09, 2015 for Model Number GE Monogram Having a defrosting issue and need a new ice kit. Also repair guy says they need to tear up the ground underneath fridge due to water leakage. Can anyone estimate how much this service would cost? Thank you.

Michael B June 14, 2015 for Model Number GE ZIS42 Have an older GE Monogram (~1994) and it has been having problems with the coils freezing up. Ordered an Icing Kit, but given the age is there other parts I should replace while I have it at this level of tear down.
1 Answer Michael, There should be no other parts required but with the unit icing up you will want to make sure that the defrost system is working by testing the defrost heater for continuity, and the defrost thermistor to make sure that it has proper resistance. The resistance should be 42.2K ohms at 0 degrees, 14.4K ohms at 36 degrees and 5K ohms at room temperature of 77 degrees. If not correct then replace the part. Read More...
