For Ge Infinite Control Switch (Part Number: OEM9569496)

Melinda for Model Number JP989BOD2BB

The 9" dual burner only burns on the large outer ring. I understand it could be either the infinity switch or the burner element. Does the stovetop have to be removed from the downdraft and counter to replace either of these parts? I believe the actual part replacement will be easy enough but I don't want to tackle this project myself if the cooktop has to be uninstalled first. Trying to decide whether to call a repair man or attempt myself. Have not determined which part is faulty yet. Thank you for your help.

Melinda, Yes the cooktop would have to be removed from the countertop in order to replace the switch or the element. This would also require disconnection of the downdraft.

Hello EJR, You will want to check to make sure that the element has not burnt out but if checks ok then the switch is what would need to be replaced.

Jordan, All electric range infinite switches "cycle" off and on. On older "current sensitive type" switches, there is a bi metal switch that reacts to the amperage and opens and closes(the click noise), the L2 to H2 circuit, based on the heat selection made. The newer e "voltage sensitive" type switches cycle both the L1 to H1 and the L2 to H2 circuits, through the resistor/bi metal. It actually sounds like all's OK. You may want to review the use and care manual, and check the bottom of the pots and pans for smooth even bottoms, so you get an efficient heat transfer to the pot from the burner, for proper, efficient cooking performance and results.

Hello Rick, It would appear that this would be the limiter on the element that is causing the unit to cycle on and off continuously. With the limiter being bad you would need to replace the element WB30T10099.

Ron for Model Number JB 960WOB1WW

I ordered a replacement dual Infinity switch. The one I received was a different design which also included the new wiring instructions for the original switch A vs new switch B. In the connection coversion chart there is a mismatch in the wire colors. The new wiring directions call for 3 blue wires and I only have 2 (0ne blue and one blue w/ tracer. There is a 3rd blue wire (to indicator light) but it has a mini connector and the new switch has all full size. The part# recieved is WB24T10063. The wires I have are 2- blue (one w/ trace), 1 - purple, 2 - reds, 1 - black. Can you advise the correct connections to connectors P1, P2, S2, 2, 4 and 4a using my wires? Thank you.

1 Answer

Hello Ron. In the instructions, it say S2 or 2 will either be blue or yellow. It does not say both. If you use the instructions, you should be able to wire the switch accordingly. If you are still having issues, tell us where each color wire was on the old switch.

Hello John, You are correct, the infinite switch has failed. The model number doesn't come up as valid so if I could get you to repost with the verified model number I can look up the infinite switch for you. Also we need to know the size of the element it controls, 6" or 8" element.

Hi Brian. Quickly you can use a flashlight to look in from the top down onto each burner element "ribbon" and see if there is a open break in it. If not then look at the back of the infinite switch for a bad connection or a burnt spot. You need to test the infinite for 240 vac on small, medium and high settings on H1 and H2 terminals. If you do not have the voltage at all 3 - settings then replace the switch. The infinite switch is part # WB24T10063. Thank You.

Hello, unfortunately we are unable to change any diagrams or name parts differently. This is assigned by the manufacturer once they publish the information. We are able to include information on our description of the part as this one states it's a dual element switch. If you need further installation or repair help you can refer to our free repair forum: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/. Thanks!
