The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It works to circulate water throughout wash and rinse cycles. The motor spins the integrated pump impeller to draw fresh water into the dishwasher and drain used water.

Causes of a bad pump and motor assembly can include mineral buildup on pump parts inhibiting water flow, worn motor windings reducing efficiency, or damage from freezing temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Inability to fill or drain water from the dishwasher
  • Abnormal noises coming from the motor area
  • Leaks or water not circulating properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Pump And Motor Assembly (Part Number: OEM16886220)

1 Answer

Jim, If the unit is bringing water in while the unit is shut off then the most likely cause will be a faulty water valve WD15X10003.

Dennis, It would be more likely that the circulation pump may have something clogged in it or damaged impeller if the detergent is not in the dispenser at the end of the cycle.

Ken, With no water getting to the unit and it having been run with no water turned on then it more than likely cause the water valve to fail. The part number for the water valve is WD15X10014.

Hello Matt. Check and make sure the drain hose and pump is not clogged. If not, then see if there is power to the pump. If so, and it does not run, you will need to replace the drain pump WD26X10025 on the unit.

Jim for Model Number pdw7880p00ss

For a few weeks now, my GE dishwasher (pdw7880p00ss) will intermittently not drain - when the cycle is done water is standing in the bottom. If I run it again, it drains just fine. For a few days, it did not run at all when the timer was set at night, but started when I ran it in the morning. Finally one morning it wouldn't run at all. It has power, the lights are on, door is closed firmly, selections change when buttons are pressed, and the countdown timer even progresses like it's running but the motor doesn't come on at all. I replaced the control module thinking that it was a timer issue. The dishwasher ran perfectly through a test cycle and a load of dishes, then the next day didn't drain again. When I tried to start it in a speed wash to get it to drain, it doesn't run at all again (same symptoms as before). Any suggestions on how to better troubleshoot before replacing anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Jim, For the dishwasher not running at all you will want to check the door latch switches to make sure that they are good. Test them for continuity. If they do not check ok then replace the part.

Greg, You will want to check the wash impeller to make sure that there is nothing clogged in it and that the impeller is not damaged. This issue sounds like the motor bearing may be bad but the impeller is the first thing to check.

RB, You will want to check your door switches to make sure that they are good and if they check ok then the most likely cause for the failure would be a stuck key on the keypad part number WD34X11233.

Clayton for Model Number GLD5950N10CS

I just moved into this house and the dishwasher is not getting the dishes clean. At first I was not getting water. I replaced the water inlet valve and now I am getting water but I don't think I am getting enough pressure to properly clean the dishes. I am thinking could be the pump/motor asy, the impellar or low water volume. Any ideas? If you tell me to check water volume can you let me know how to check that? If water volume is good, then what? Thanks, Clayton

1 Answer

Hello Clayton. First clean all the spray arms and the filters in the unit. If all of that is good, and the issue continues, then you will need to replace the circulation pump WD26X10053 on the unit.

Bob, Normally a motor going bad would not cause the entire unit to shut off but is a good possibility with the issue that you are having with the noise.
