The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It works to circulate water throughout wash and rinse cycles. The motor spins the integrated pump impeller to draw fresh water into the dishwasher and drain used water.

Causes of a bad pump and motor assembly can include mineral buildup on pump parts inhibiting water flow, worn motor windings reducing efficiency, or damage from freezing temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Inability to fill or drain water from the dishwasher
  • Abnormal noises coming from the motor area
  • Leaks or water not circulating properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Noises for Model Number PDWT180V00SS

I have a PDWT180V00SS. the dishwasher operates seemingly normal, and dishes are cleaned. other than replacing the racks, d/w has been great for 10 years. however, there is a new noise during operation. sounds like it could be a motor (higher frequency maybe electric or mechanical noise)... maybe this is indicating failure since everything else works ok? it starts around a minute after starting. then stops while more water is added, then begins again. it continues for quite a while... is that a circulation pump? water filling sounds normal, no odd noise. at the end of cycle, and when operating in mid cycle, the water drains normal, no odd noise. i cleaned the sump, debris screens, motor inlet, etc... . the noise remains.

Noises, if the sound appears to be coming from under the dishwasher, the circulation motor WD26X10053 could potentially be the cause. However, if it sounds like it is coming from the door, it would be likely that the main control WD21X10505 has a contact that is not closing fully in the relay.

Steve for Model Number GLD6700N00WW

Recently, my tub overflowed due to a drain flap issue while the machine was not operating. I was able to fix the drain issue, but was unaware that the float was stuck. Subsequently, most of a normal wash cycle was run without water coming into the machine due to the malfunctioning float. I corrected the float mechanism and water is incoming, but now the upper arm doesn't rotate and there is a hot electrical smell that smells like blue smoke. Is it possible that the circulation pump is burning out?

1 Answer

Steve, as you are aware, the wash motor is not designed to be run dry, it is very likely the motor is probably ruined due to it running without water. You would need to replace the motor/pump assembly, part number WD26X10053

Mark for Model Number GLD6860N00SS

My dishes are not getting clean. I suspect the circulation pump, since the mid and upper spray arms are not turning. They can move freely, just no water pressure to move them. But water level also seems low. I don’t know what the correct water level is though, so may just be in my head. Water fills for 45 seconds upon starting machine and puts in about 1 gallon. The float trips at about 2 gallons and works fine. When I fill to the float trip level, spray arms still don’t rotate or get dishes clean. Thoughts?

Mark, Based on the information it would be recommended to check to make sure there is nothing clogged in the pump assembly. If there is not then you will want to check the impeller for damage. If this is good then it would likely be a faulty circulation pump.

Jeff, You will want to check the drain pump to make sure that the pump does not have anything clogged in it. If this checks ok then the drain pump would be the most likely cause for the unit making noise during drain. The drain pump part number will be WD26X10039.

Cole, With this issue being intermittent then this would most likely be caused by a faulty control board on the unit. The part number fo rthe control board is WD21X10247.
