The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It works to circulate water throughout wash and rinse cycles. The motor spins the integrated pump impeller to draw fresh water into the dishwasher and drain used water.

Causes of a bad pump and motor assembly can include mineral buildup on pump parts inhibiting water flow, worn motor windings reducing efficiency, or damage from freezing temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Inability to fill or drain water from the dishwasher
  • Abnormal noises coming from the motor area
  • Leaks or water not circulating properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Pump And Motor Assembly (Part Number: OEM16886220)

George for Model Number GHDA455L00CS

I have a Ge dishwasher that's about 7 years old and just does not clean well at all even when we use lemi-shine to help clean. The water pressure coming out of the unit seems fine and the blades that disburse the water look clean to me. The one person that I talked to suggested a Mechanism assembly GE WD26X10045 AP4508069 that costs 165.00. If that is the problem should I spend that much on a 7 year old dishwasher? I'm afraid to spend the money and have the same problem. Thanks for your help.

Hello George, You will want to check down in the pump assembly to ensure that your filters are clean and to make sure that there is nothing that is clogged up as this is the cause with most units that are not cleaning properly. Inadequate water pressure from pump. If this does not correct then you may need the mechanism.

Hello Sarah, You should first remove the screens in the bottom of the unit and check for any debris that can be obstructing the normal operation of the circulation pump. (Be aware that a piece of clear glass is invisible in there and a shop vac works wonders for removing glass chips without having to fish in there with your fingers!). If nothing is found, I would ohm out the motor. If it ohms out properly, you should check for voltage to the pump motor when the unit should be circulating the water. This would point to the control board if the motor is ohmed out good but is not receiving voltage. If it is getting voltage when it should, the pump and motor assembly will probably have to be replaced.

Becky, Your dishwasher has a separate drain pump WD26X10025, You can't access it from inside the tub. Yes, it is possible to get a small article indide the drain pump and it will make noise, similar to your description. Here's some help, from the service manual " To remove the drain pump: 1. Disconnect power. 2. Remove the dishwasher from its installation. 3. Lay the dishwasher on its back. 4. Disconnect the 2 wires from the drain pump. 5. Loosen the 5/16-in. hex-head screw, then pull the drain pump off the sump." In most cases, you don't have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet, but it makes for an awkward, "tight" area to work in.

Hello Jim, This is not brain surgury but it is a big enough job that if you have never done it before, I recommend that you pull the unit from its' installation and lay the unit on its' back to perform the repair. It is just too easy to cause a water leak with the unit in place. The new pump and motor assembly will not come with instructions.

Brad for Model Number GLD5560L00SS

My dishwasher has recently started making a loud "rumbling" sound, whenever the wash pump is running. It almost sounds like the pump is cavitating. The unit seems to work fine, but the noise is very irritating. The sound is definitely coming from the underside of the dishwasher. I checked the filter screens (all clear) and replaced the spray arms. No change in the sound. Before I disassemble this thing, do you have any ideas on what could cause this? Thanks...

Brad, There are a couple of other things to check. Remove the sump cover WD22X10077 and remove the filter and check the lower portion of the sump for small articles such as chards of glass, seeds, etc. Check and make sure you have the proper fill level in the bottom of the tub " During a normal wash cycle, the water level in the tub will cover the sump screen or be just to the rear edge of the heater bracket. The dishwasher will fill with approximately 1.2 gal. of water. " If there's not enough water in tub/pump, the motor will make a noise. Then Make sure the detergent or rinse agent is not "foaming", this will also make the cavitation noise and increase the noise level. Thanks

Hi Jeff. Make sure the water is filling properly and the filters in the sump assembly are clean. If the water is low, replace the water valve part # WD15X10003. If not, and the motor does not pump the water, you will need to replace the motor assembly WD26X10053. Thank You.

Hi Ray. You can try to use the original parts as mentioned.... But consider this, the impeller is at the same motor shaft end and has taken the rpm speed and "abuse" of the issues. Inspect them carefully. The seal has to work as new. For a few bucks more you can have a new tight set up and the satisfaction of not worrying @ a seal lock up or leak(unknown to find). Impeller seal kit part # WD19X10038. Motor assy. part # WD26X10053. Thank You.
