The Ice Auger Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It powers the auger that moves ice from the ice maker into the dispenser, allowing for smooth and efficient ice dispensing. Functioning at 115V, 60 Hz, and 3.2 Amps, it is crucial for the operation of the ice dispenser.

You should replace this ice auger motor if it fails due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or mechanical damage. A malfunctioning motor can result in the ice not dispensing properly, or the motor may make unusual noises indicating it’s struggling to function.

Symptoms of a bad ice auger motor include:

  • Ice not dispensing from the refrigerator
  • Grinding or buzzing noises from the ice dispenser
  • Auger not turning or moving ice
  • Intermittent or no ice flow

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Ice Auger Motor (Part Number: OEM13011873)

1 Answer

Hello Adam, You have two separate issues. The icemaker not producing ice can be the icemaker or the water inlet valve. Normally, if the icemaker stops with ice in it, the issue is normally the icemaker and if the icemaker is empty, the water valve is normally at fault. The second issue which is with the water dispense can be the fault of the water valve, a frozen water line or reservoir, or it could be an electrical failure such as the microswitch.

Jesus, The auger motor will come as a motor only WR60X10258. There is another part to order WR02X11295 auger motor boot, it will help to reduce the possibility of the auger motor freezing. You should also check the freezer temperature, the average temp. should be 0 to 5 dgrs. and you also want to check and make sure the ice cube dispenser flapper closes and seals properly.

Do you sell the protective casing that fits over GE ice auger motor part Number WR60X10258 (AP4337288) ? My GE refrigerator did not come with this part. I found my ice auger covered with ice and was able to clear the ice with a hair dryer. I'm not sure why the motor froze but - we did abandon the ice maker for a long time because it stopped working, but we forgot to turn off the ice maker. But I have been unable to find this protective casing. It appears at 3:32 of your video showing GE ice auger motor.

Debbie, Not all units will have the cover over the auger motor. This cover also has not been used on these models for a while and would not be available. The unit having not been used for a while will most likely be the issue.

Hello Dirk. You will need to check the micro-switch and see if it is bad in the dispenser and will need to be replaced.

Hello Johnny. You will need to test for power to the motor. If there is power there, and the motor does not run, you will need to order and replace the motor on the unit. It is not likely to be caused by the solenoid. It does not have anything to do with the motor running. If there is no power, then either the micro-switch or the main board is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Tommy, There is a crush/cube solenoid next to the auger motor in the unit. When the solenoid switches to cube it can cause noisy operation. This is the most likely cause for the noise.

Leroy, Yes the dispenser motor is the same as the crush motor. You will want to check to make sure that there is no ice in the bin that would cause it to bind up. Also check the crusher assembly and drive blade to make sure that they are not damaged. If these check ok then it would most likely be a bad auger motor.

Maynard, With or without the wires connected to the motor shaft you should be able to turn the shaft. The shaft will be tight but able to be turned. If it will not turn at all then it would most likely be a bad motor.

Hello Juan, The auger motor WR60X10258 is most likely frozen up. Point a hair dryer at it for about 15 minutes and if this causes it to become operational, you will need to check the door seals and the ice door for an air leak. If none are located, check for 120Vac to the motor. If there, replace the motor, if not, replace the switch WR23X10783 in the dispenser. If it is good and being properly activated, the dispense board could be the issue.
