The Ice Auger Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It powers the auger that moves ice from the ice maker into the dispenser, allowing for smooth and efficient ice dispensing. Functioning at 115V, 60 Hz, and 3.2 Amps, it is crucial for the operation of the ice dispenser.

You should replace this ice auger motor if it fails due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or mechanical damage. A malfunctioning motor can result in the ice not dispensing properly, or the motor may make unusual noises indicating it’s struggling to function.

Symptoms of a bad ice auger motor include:

  • Ice not dispensing from the refrigerator
  • Grinding or buzzing noises from the ice dispenser
  • Auger not turning or moving ice
  • Intermittent or no ice flow

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Ice Auger Motor (Part Number: OEM13011873)

1 Answer

Arnie, You will need to remove the bin assembly and check the solenoid WR62X23154 and the associated parts inside the motor cover WR17X11789 on the back of the support rail. When Crushed Ice is selected the solenoid remains relaxed and the cubes are forced through the chopper blades. When Cubed Ice is selected, the solenoid activates and raises the shifter arm on the side of the bin and allows the cubes to flow through the dispenser without being crushed. The solenoid or the plunger etc. are where the problem is located.

Troy for Model Number GSG22JFXABB

Fridge is making ice but will not dump ice when ice dispenser is pressed. Reading through your comment.... i removed the ice drawer, holding the door switch and pressing ice to dispense, the AUGER motor/rod is turning. I noticed that the Solenoid doesn't always kick-in (engage), does this have anything to do with dispensing ice ? Another thing, when the ice drawer is back in it's place (with ice), the dohickey is not turning. To sum it up....without the ice drawer in place, i can see the rod turn. But once the ice drawer is back in it's place, you can hear the motor running but not turning the dohickey. Please help.

Hello Troy. No, either the bucket is broke or the auger yoke that turns bucket is stripped and slipping.

Tammy, To check the seal on the ice door you will want to use a flashlight and put it into the chute and look up into the dispenser assembly to see if you see light coming through. If so then you will want to replace the ice door. If the helix is broken then you will want to replace it.

Tammy for Model Number PSS26NHPCWW

My ice maker makes ice but makes a terrible noise when you press the paddle to dispense. At first when you selected crushed ice it would give you a mixture of cubes and crushed. Then it started making a like grinding sound when you pressed the paddle. I cleaned it out and noticed the helix was broke. It seems like the ice is getting stuck in the blades. When I cleaned it out there was ice between the blades, reinstalled it and worked a couple times without noise then started again. I have taken out bin, pressed light switch, auger drive turns and the little door opens and shuts. Please Help:(

Tammy, You will want to make sure that you are getting a good seal around the ice door. It may be that the ice door is not sealing properly and allow moisture to migrate into the bin and cause the issue.

Joe, Check to make sure that the fill tube behind the icemaker is not frozen. If frozen then you will need to clear the ice. If this checks ok then the icemaker would be at fault.

Hello Gary, This sounds more like a stuck switch WR23X10783 in the dispenser area. These are common to fail when ice is dispensed into drinks. The manufacturer recommends to dispense the ice into an empty glass because of the "splash" when the ice drops into a liquid.

Mike, To replace the tubing that goes from the valve to the door you will need to replace the water reservoir WR17X11324. With the auger motor not operating you would want to check to make sure that the auger is getting power. If it is getting power then the auger motor would need to be replaced. If not then it may be a problem with the dispenser control board.
