The Evaporator Fan Motor Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It plays a crucial role in circulating air over the evaporator coils, which helps maintain the proper temperature in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Used in side-by-side units, this motor includes a 2-wire thermistor in the harness. The assembly includes one Fan Motor with a 6-Pin Harness and Thermistor Assembly. The harness and plug measure 13-7/8" in length.

Common causes of a bad fan motor include electrical issues, debris accumulation, or wear and tear over time. These issues can hinder the motor's ability to circulate air effectively, leading to temperature inconsistencies.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator fan motor assembly include:

  • Unusual noises coming from the refrigerator
  • Inconsistent or warm temperatures in the fridge or freezer
  • Frost buildup on the evaporator coils
  • The refrigerator running continuously without cycling off

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Evaporator Fan Motor Assembly (Part Number: OEM13316436)

1 Answer

Hello Dave. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

I am having problems with trying to get my hose into my pipe on my wall with this hose that I have. It is not a straight plastic hose it has a piece on the end of it that sticks out around the hose on the outside that won't go into the pipe on the wall. Is there another adapter that would go on this hose to let it fit into the pipe on the wall. I have the old style of a pipe on the wall that is in a house that is fifty years Los can you help me?

Hello Lynn. No, you may need to replace the pipe in the hose so it is up to code and the hose will fit into the pipe.

Ken for Model Number PSC23MSTE SS

My GE refrigerator has 6 wires emanating from the plug for the evaporator motor. Four go to the motor, and two white wires attach to what appears to be a thermocouple. All six wires are fastened into a bundle by a cylindrical blue rubber grommet, roughly 1" in length, several inches down from the plug. The picture of the part that comes very close to what I have is for part #AP4438809. However, when I cross check with the Appliance Compatibility Tool, I find that my model is not listed. When I search on the refrigerator model, the web site gives me a choice of two models: AP3875639 and AP3191003. The former has four wires, and the latter has 5 wires. Neither look close to what I have, and neither check out with compatibility tool. What is the correct part ? Can you point me to a picture that I can compare against ?

Ken, The evaporator fan motor WR60X10074 has 6 wires and is the correct one for your unit. In the picture you will notice a blue, yellow, red, and white coming off of the motor itself. When you look just beyond the blue grommet you will notice 3 white wires that go to the plug which 2 are for the thermistor/thermocouple.

Hello Jerry. Yes, you should be able to test the DC fan motor with a 9 volt battery. If it does not run, replace the fan motor.

Hello Bd, You want to check to make sure that your evaporator fan motor WR60X10307 is running. There is a possibility that the control board WR55X10942C could be defective but you want to make sure that you are getting power to the evaporator fan motor. If no power to the fan motor then you want to check your board. At the board on connector J2 pin 3 to pin 4, using a multi-meter, you should have 8 to 12.4 VDC. On the motor you should see the same values between white and yellow. The fan motor comes with new evaporator thermistor. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello RJB. Yes, if the fan motor works, then does not, then does, yes it can cause that. Also, if the unit is sticking in the defrost cycle, it will cause that issue.
